Subject: Help, somebody stole my MOJO!

tidalwdave ( ) posted Wed, 14 June 2000 at 8:50 PM ยท edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 1:49 PM

I've been in a funk for the past two months. I can't really get any inspiration to do new pictures. How do you all stay motivated? I've had to settle on doing maybe three pics a month, and they are'nt that great. I just want to know what makes others get ideas or devote time to creating new images? I'd like to devote more time and effort, but the creativity (sp?) isn't there. Can somebody help me find my mojo? Thanks, Dave

Stock answers: 1) Join the Challenge Arena. Some of the challenges are quite fun. 2) Try to recreate a scene from a movie or a book. 3) Look at a picture and try to do it better. 4) Work through a tutorial and use it in a larger work. Personally, I'm a bit twisted. My best pictures are not necessarily the ones I've put the most time into, but the ones that told a story, especially a punchline. Heck, the title of your post suggests some interesting picture ideas. Why not make a picture of a Mojo hunting trip, or maybe where it snuck off to?

Believe it or not, I ALWAYS get inspiration by looking at what other people have done. Not to copy, but to get my own angle on a particular theme that interests me. I don't just look at art done in the 3D program of my choice (Vue), but I look at others as well, 3D Studio Max, Lightwave (now there is an intriguing program!), WCS, World Builder, even Bryce (even tho it doesn't appeal to me, some folks really have a way with it). Any 3D program can give me great inspiration. I visit as many galleries as I can with the time I've got and I almost always come up with something fresh that I haddn't thought of doing.

heyas; read some books. listen to music. and visit the gallery, you might see something you want to try. i dont know whether viewing others' art inspires me, or just incites my competetiveness, but when i see SO much great work, i just GOTTA make something! :)

I go to Tucows and take a look at their desktop themes artistic section. That will generally give me several ideas. Sometimes a certain model will give me ideas also. Good luck( I think our mojos are traveling together) Marge

I call that a brain funk when i get into one of those moods where i can't seem to do a thing. Speaking of which i took almost 6 months off and am just now getting inspiration from of all places www.shots.com. It has some great reference material there. Also you just might find your work there. Any way My motto is" You can't rush a good artist". It doesn't matter if you put one picture out a month or two a year, it's the end product that matters. Any of you that have done tradional art as in oils know that it's not normal to put out a piece of work or pieces in one week. So funk or no funk go get that MOJO and have fun doing it :).

heyas; here's a fun project: open vue and mess with the sky/sun/clouds stuff. discover how it all works and write a dissertation on... what? well, i thought it might be cool! i tried that one day. came up with a couple nice skies. can't say i learned much, though. just that some cloud textures only work if they are at low altitudes, and some only work at high altitudes. (hey! if you think i'm so great, nedrah, you send ME money! ;D )

heya; that check? but the next one is due! with a bonus, 'cuz i got us a spiffy new blurb, now! instead of 'vue forum: the vue users wanted a new forum, so we gave em one to shut em up' we now have something decent-sounding. (i bet nobody noticed!) ;)
