Upon trying to figure out what a few images are supposed to be under, a window pops up telling me to locate DG55.EXE. What is this file?

well, you have to give us more information, What kind of program are you using to view the files. Where are the files.

I'm browsing thru Explorer in NT. Normally, through file extensions, Windows associates extensions with programs. I've been trying to view a few bitmap files [.bmp obviously]to see what they are becuase they don't show up in Poser. I even tried Photoshop and that didn't work on a few of them.

even tho the page says connection timed out, it still posts. Just to let you know. I'm not understanding why you're using explorer to view bitmap files, but I gotta say, if they won't even show up in photoshop, they're corrupted or someone's renamed the extensions or something.

Or unless with the OBJ files, wherein the maps are referenced, have different filenames. I don't know what happened above the reply went thru fine...

bonestructure ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2000 at 9:22 PM

ah, obj files have mtl extensions for the material. I assume that's what you're doing. I'm confused

So am I. When exporting the obj file from Max3 it asks me if I want to use the mtl library. Of course I choose that but I never see that library anywhere. A second question... why does Poser give you a "caught at exception..." error and freeze? I just imported an object and I get that every time I render. So I can't render unless I get rid of the object.

The mtl file should be wherever you exported the obj file to. To me, it sounds as if you need to reinstall poser and the update if you're using 4.

I'll have to give that a try considering the problem. Is there any way in Poser to UVW map a texture onto an object? It seems that all my obstacles are cropping up in one modeling.

bonestructure ( ) posted Wed, 14 June 2000 at 9:32 PM

no, you need to get like uv mapper in the freestuff section. It could be max too sad to say. I sometimes have problems when I export a 3ds file to Bryce with errors, so now I export almost everything I make as an obj. But I'd say try reinstalling poser and the update, and see if that fixes the problem. I also have polytrans, so sometimes when I have a problem with a 3ds file, I take it in there and then export it as a 3ds file. for some reason that seems to solve the problem. Now if it would only read Bryce obps

Actually I could try PolyTrans. I have v2.2. Maybe that will work. Although I can't say that it works the other way around. I've tries exporting a figure from Poser4 in obj format and ran it thru PT but it was just too far gone to even use...
