I know that when I have a mass render to do I just set up my trusty old DualAMD 1.8s and let it run all night (and the next day, and the next day, and the next day.....) Don't know if C2 is capable of multi-machine rendering. Not in the sense of the renderfarms of most other commercial 3D software. Maya and 3DS Max take advantage of a network process that C2 lacks (something for the future, maybe?). The only way I know of to do this is to use a copy of C2 per machine and use them to render one shot per machine. Multi-machine renders of this type would require multiple licenses so as not to violate the EULA. My 2c's Ken
hmmmm....thats what i didnt understand..if the network rendering had to be built into the software to begin with...youre right itd be nice to see a 3rd party plug in or something thatd allow it with Carrara...i noticed that the other 3d software packages you mentioned did it...tho your solution of building a dual processor machine might be an idea..tho does C2 take advantage of multi-processors? i know majority of software doesnt...
I would suggest, as I have done and many others that you request this feature from Eovia. Send them a quick note about adding Network Rendering to Carrara 3. The more requests they get on a particular feature, the more likely they are to add it. I sure hope they do add it, most 3D apps these days have it, if not included then as an option. Bryce 5, Vue4 w/Mover, Strata, and some other low cost 3D apps have it.

http://jedi.ks.uiuc.edu/~johns/raytracer/ There are a few freeware/3rd party apps that will allow you to set up render farms. The link to appleseed even will help you to write your own if you have the backround in programing. Carra does take advantage of dual processors, you can see it render in both #1 & #2 threads if you have a dual sys.Yeah I thought that it had a bug in ver 2 when I saw the 2 different colored squares as I watched my renders. Then I realized that it was C using both of the processors on my dual 1Gig Mac! YEAH! I agree whole-heartedly about the need for network rendering. Especially since Ray Dream USED to have it! I had a 23 second animation take 54 hours once! (Too many reflections and lights I suppose... but it looked great when it was done! :> )

anygood information out there about how to go about building a renderfarm and use Cararra? i just got 2.0 and am rendering a couple things that seem to be taking a long time..lol..and had the idea about using some of my older pcs and create a renderfarm...was wondering if anyone had any experience in doing it...:)
