Well after my recent absense from this forum and I have returned at last and with a better PC now that i have upgraded. Ive gone from a 233 to athlon 1.3, i know still not the fastest but the x6 speed increase seems amazing to me :-D Heres my first pic in celebration :-D

Congrats! Now it's only a matter of time before you begin to use all the high settings and find yourself waitin again for overnight renders :) [just what Tjohn wisely predicted to me when I upgraded coupla months ago, LOL] S.

Nick_G ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 8:03 AM

That's the way it is. I started on a 1.13 Celeron, then upgraded to a 2.53 Pentium. Now I try all those high settings... and anything I try to render takes just as long as before. :) Still - congrats on the new PC, and very cool pic!

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 10:02 AM

Congratulations with your new PC. I'm sure you'll enjoy the extra processing power. And I'll have to agree with DC and Nick, you'll soon be back to rendering overnighters. My first render on my new system took 3 days. It wouldn't even render at my old one.

Same here :) The last Interior Study took 3 full days. On my Old One it would've taken a couple of weeks ...

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 10:08 AM

I've had a render that was so complex that my old system thought it was going to take 4 years to render. I never finished the render. Not even on my new machine. The results just wheren't good enough to compensate the rendertime.

LOL... what was the estimate time readout? 400:21:12:10? :)

Rayraz ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 10:11 AM

Don't really remember anymore. I interpreted it as 4 years, and my own calculations came to the same conclusion. My quess is 4:23:12:10:56 or something.

I don't know about being manic and menacing, but I'm not a mac-user :)

BTW My comp is faster then yours, so I'll have rendered a shield-disruptor before you have rendered an remodulated shield that can take my disruptor.

Sorry Rayraz! Already done, complete with anti-shield disrupter technology and time-line reactive thingies. So you can't even go back in time and beat me to it....so there! Ang, you're in good hands......mine!

Somehow, I doubt anyone would want me for my PC. Its pretty darn old. So old that I was pleasantly shocked to find it had two usb ports tucked up under the power cord. Phew, I didn't need to install the usb card I bought. Went and got my money back on it.

I blame Rayraz! Not for anything in particular...... I'm sorry you had all the trouble, Ang. My impenetrable shield would have protected you from all that...now, about your phone number......

4 years, 23 days, 12 hours, 10 minutes and 56 seconds. There's probably no month counter, because not every month has the same number of days.

BTW, no matter how 'darn old' a comp is, I can always use a couple of extra clock cycles.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Fri, 13 June 2003 at 5:54 PM

That would help! (5 Ghz that is)

5ghz? Peanuts....I want an EARTH SIMULATOR! This beauty uses 5,120 NEC SX-6 vector processors and is probably the fastest computer on the planet!

Hmmm... might actually be able to handle true ambience with volumetric world!

Rayraz ( ) posted Sat, 14 June 2003 at 2:04 AM

I've already done that. Depends on the scene how slow it is. Try a volumetric world with real ambience and a GI-dome with soft shadows :) that'll slow any PC down.
