Hi, this is my WIP of the june challenge picture. Rendering took 50 hours on a P4 2,5 Ghz machine. Damn volumetric light. :-) This is only a WIP, but I couldn't wait any more to post it to hear your comments. :) The song and it's lyrics (from a german band called Summerhouse) will be added later. Thanks for watching! Greets, Jimi

Hi Bryster, had a bunch of trouble with my grandpa in the last months... no real time and mind for creativity... But hold on - that light is GREEN???? Oh man, I hate to be color blind.... no kidding. For me it's yellow! I also created green chickens instead of yellow ones some months ago. I hate it, I hate it! Green...? :-( Ok, I will try again, thanks. :) Greets, Jimi

OK so it's a light green, pretty close to yellow, but green anyway you look at it.

sigh Thanks. Let's see if I ever create a YELLOW light. grin

Ang25 ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 3:02 PM

The light is yellow but leaves the materials tinted green. Green chickens would be great for Dr Seus. :-D Ang

TheBryster ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 3:03 PM

Why don't you get something you KNOW is yellow and colourmatch it?

OK seriously....and I was being serious......the LIGHT is white and very bright. The walls and floor are GREEN. There is yellow between the light and the building materials but it's transient. The whole effect is light green.....

Probably I will put a yellow lemon on his head. ;) Colormatch is a good idea, but I think with my color blindness I can't match it quite good. Well, let's see. If everything fails I just say over and over again that green is ok, too. One day I will believe it. ;-) Thanks, Jimi

Colorblindness doesn't allow one to match colors. For some reason it doesn't work that way. I knew that it would be a problem for an electrician but I never thought about the artist and problems it would cause him. I once knew a guy who sat at a blinking red light for a very long time, he couldn't differentiate between the light being off and being red so he just assumed he was sitting at a red light. Luckily, it was in the middle of the night and no one was behind him. He was also legally blind which may have had more to do with not being able to see the blinking than the colorblindness. Not sure.

TheBryster ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 3:20 PM

Ang: I really didn't know that. I thought it was all to do with shades...like grey and stuff. Red is red, green is green, you don't know what colour they are but...there ya go! I have a similar problem with sound. I'm going deaf. That doesn't mean I can't hear. I hear sound but can't seperate it into different componants. EG: If the tv is on and there's someone in the room talking to me, I can't split the two sounds up. One of them has to go.

Wish I could stay and follow you around but I have to leave this job, and go to my part time job. I may be back online in about 5 hrs. If I'm lucky. ttyl.

derjimi ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 3:29 PM

Thank you for your help. :-) Well, normally my color blindness doesn't make me sad. Only when I play snooker, hit the brown ball and my partner tells me that this was NOT the red one I thought and I get some penalty points and when I create green images instead of yellow ones, then I'm going mad. lol Anyway, green or yellow - I will get along with it somehow. :-) Greets, Jimi

It's a fantastic scene, depending what you plan on adding you can always use a hue & saturation correction vs 50 hours. Nice work, good luck. ICM

i like it, i think the color is perfect.

tjohn ( ) posted Thu, 12 June 2003 at 4:48 PM

On my monitor, the light is white, darkening to yellow. But the shadow areas, as the yellowish tint goes into darker and darker shadow, IS definitely skewing to green. One fix would be to go into the light lab and change the shadow ambience to a yellowish-orange and turn it up until it defeats the greenish tint in the shadows. I know this would be difficult for you to do yourself, but a friend could help you adjust the color. Having said that, I think the pic is great as is, doesn't need anything at all, really, IMHO. BTW, who's the artist/band? I can think of a lot of songs with Light in the title, but none just called, "The Light". Please "enlighten" me. (sorry)

So it's green, but the scene is great. I think if you could just tone down the green a bit it will take on a life of its own. Cheers Catlin

Summerhouse was a local german band from my town. Unfortunately they don't exist anymore, but they produced an album and I went to nearly 20 life concerts of them. They made songs like Fury In The Slaughterhouse, kind of ballads and rock songs, with a great frontman who has an incredible voice. So nobody of you will know this song, but for me it is living memory of really, really good times. More details with the final image - thanks! Greets, Jimi

Jimi, You might try the link "here" in this thread if you need a program to help with matching colors. Personally I like the "limey" coloration to your render, but I'm overly fond of the color green and for that matter yellow the way it blends with the green. For the mostpart the rays and soft shadows look very nice.Good Render!! Don't forget to post the lyrics! - TJ

danamo ( ) posted Fri, 13 June 2003 at 12:29 AM

Hey derjimi! Regardless of the color(I also see the light as yellow on my monitor, with the light becoming greenish toward the shadows) this scene is great! I really like the Gothic arches.

Well, it looks lime-green to me. That is, green-YELLOW. Anyway, for colour matching, go to www.tucows.com and look for Pixie 2.0. It's a little freeware program that gives you Hex, HSV, RGB, CMYK and HTML numerical values for any pixel you pass your mouse over.

The light defenitely is yellow. With a very slight green hue, but defenitely far more yellow then green. And I like it. I usually use the HSL settings to get the colors right. Here's some standard key settings for the hue (in the default Windows color picker): H = 0 = full red. H = 20 = orange. H = 40 = yellow. H = 60 = yellow/green. H = 80 = full green. H = 100 = green with a slightly blue hue. H = 120 = turkoise (sp?). H = 140 = blue (like a blue sky). H = 160 = full blue. H = 180 = purple. H = 200 = pink. H = 220 = red with slight blue hue. H = 240 = full red. I hope it helps a little in getting the right colors. It's a very nice image. Great modelling an lighting.

Interesting. On this monitor at work, it is much more yellow than green. And I think that my monitor at home is better calibrated.
