As I am asked so often HOW I can make so fast poses I decided to make a tutorial on posing ... well, this comes later - but a few days ago I found another great thing that - if you use it wisely - can change your way of working with applications - or in my case, with Poser. And I don't want you have to wait 'till the tut finally comes out - so I'll post this before and maybe will explain it later on (;o) - for Ladynimue) more detailed I learned that the success of being or working fast is to learn about 'ergonomics'. If you can minimize your clicks or mouse movements by achiving the same results you'll be faster - quiete simple, isn't it ?? So - I analysed my work and found out that my LEFT hand is just doing nothing when I pose - I was always searching for a way to have a 2nd mouse. And then I found that: http://atzitznet.dyndns.org/Joy2Mouse3/Joy2Mouse3.htm This tool let you programm your Joystick with complex keystrokes and other things - well you can use it even as a mouse-replacement. This came really as a shock - hey, why a 2nd mouse - a joystick is even more cool :o). So I tried this tooly out on my Joystick and - tataa - it worked !! Now I switch the POV with one flick of my LEFT wrist - and even better I can do this and that more with my left fingers (for example deciding ON the object if I want to rotate, twist or pull) - This is really like playing a game and it changed my opinion about a 'joystick' - this is no longer a plaything for me - it has become a real usefull tool. Have a look at the buttons I programmed so far - then you might can imagine HOW really usefull this is :o)

Hey with two of these we can set up Rockem-Sockem-Posers and knock their blocks off! ;p Cool idea!

I think it's pretty cool myself, thanks for the tip! Marque

Pretty neat idea, Schlabber. I had never considered using my joystick for anything other than scoring frags in Mechwarrior. ;) Evo

But..but.. with which hand do you hold you're coffee mug then when posering? :P Cheers, Coffee addict.

Need for speed... I suppose the speed of your hand was far less than the speed of your brain, huh, Schlabber? Looks like this redresses the balance! Daft, but great! H:)

Phantast ( ) posted Fri, 13 June 2003 at 5:18 AM

You only need this because Poser is so badly designed. In Bryce the shortcuts are all single keystrokes that sit easily under the left hand (`1234), so while you use the right hand on the mouse, your left hand can be flicking from one POV to the next. In Poser you get daft shortcuts like Ctrl-; that require both hands to use. An ergonomic disaster.

hogwarden ( ) posted Fri, 13 June 2003 at 5:37 AM

I agree with you Phantast. I never use the Poser keyboard shortcuts...

Schlabber ( ) posted Fri, 13 June 2003 at 5:53 AM

ah - well - phantast - for such a disease I would use a simple keystroke-capturing programm (as I allready used before and I have also written a flyout-menu that I can reach with my mouse (or in my case my graphire pen). It is more the 'normal' way how you use a joystick that fascinate me. But you ARE right - it is really a disease - the shortcuts for Poser. Axe Gaijin: Hey !! Don't YOU have three arms ??

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 13 June 2003 at 6:13 AM

would it be that hard for CL to just make a the shortcuts a txt INI file, so it could be edited? Or add a "edit shortcuts" to the preferences?? If GAMES can have this, you'd think all utilities would....

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Phantast ( ) posted Fri, 13 June 2003 at 9:50 AM

Dead right. You buy a game for what, $40, the controls are all configurable. You buy an application for $400, you're stuck with the designer's choices.

Agree. Bryce is brilliant with it's one key keystrokes. Vue has the same problem as Poser and Photoshop. And one of the things I love about Corel's Photo-paint is that all the shortcuts are configurable.
