Althought the compostion is 'Night on Bald Mountain', I went more for how the music drives emotion...and what better venue than the Sea, ever changing, moody, just like Mussgorski's piece. Things to be done; Adding something to the seawitch's hand, and tweaking her shroud with color... May or may not add a serpent (have to model him first)... Tweaking textures and adding better rocks...any suggestions welcome And BTW this is a preliminary render not the final....I have learned an emense amount on this challenge so far, so what do you think? Oh, the music and this WIP will be at the link shortly... Zhann

Thw water that is near the "place sea serpent here" circle seems a little smooth, but the rest of the pic and the composition looks great to me.

Not sure about those circles with the writing in!!!

This would be a great image with only the ocean and the rocks. Can't wait to see the final image!

Super, the sea is just brilliant.

The sea is excellent

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

Doublecrash ( ) posted Sun, 15 June 2003 at 6:09 AM

I like very much your interpretation and your choice to go for the feelings instead of "depicting" the music. Music is IMO the greatest form of art, because it doesn't need any support... Beautiful entry so far.

Excellent work on the water...I can hear "Night on Bald Mountain" when I look at this.

electroglyph ( ) posted Sun, 15 June 2003 at 10:21 AM

This looks more like Andromeda to me. Fantastic Work! but maybe you should switch songs to something else. How about "Dun Ringill" by Jethro Tull? Here's the Lyrics Clear light on a slick palm as I mis-deal the day Slip the night from a shaved pack make a marked card play Call twilight hours down from a heaven home high above the highest bidder for the good Lord's throne In the wee hours I'll meet you down by Dun Ringill --- oh, and we'll watch the old gods play by Dun Ringill We'll wait in stone circles `til the force comes through --- lines joint in faint discord and the stormwatch brews a concert of kings as the white sea snaps at the heels of a soft prayer whispered In the wee hours I'll meet you down by Dun Ringill --- oh, and I'll take you quickly by Dun Ringill

Looks great so far.

It looks great so far Zhann and I can't wait to see how you procede. In particular I'm interested in this sea serpent you're going to model. Catlin

It probably won't look like Nessy, Catlin!

Thanks all, there are 14 terrains that make up the ocean, and I tweaked the foamyseawater texture some, her shroud is what I thought would be the hardest but it actually turned out by accident, you won't believe what it really is...:]
She is holding or will be holding an orb of power or trident haven't decided yet...
For the serpent I'll need a texture, anyone with an idea?

So far I've learned to;
Pose a figure and export with hair intact (3 tries)
Create ocean swells and foam (Hubby was in the Navy and gave me some reference pointers)
Dramatic lighting
And model a sea serpent (will see on this one)...

This is the first fantasy image I have done, hope to do more....
