Subject: Why do I have to choose?

Ok, when I try to change the settings in my profile, it insists that I choose what type of "artist" I am. I'm NOT an artist. I refuse to choose any of the selections available since none of them apply to me. You need to fix that, folks. Kate (who is NOT an "artist")

My kind of person. :) I agree.

Uh...I mean in reference to having a choice....I do not mean that you are necessarily not an artist.

Also, my operating system is none of your beeswax. Gawd, I am really starting to hate this place. Talk about intrusive. ARGH!!! Kate the Kranky (who misses her white on black forums and her yellow links and...)

will work on rewording that one.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 5:30 PM

Might just want to add a "non applicable" or "none of the above" option to them. Would be easier than recoding the thing, no? Kate

And I thought it was because the oracle and the architect had worked it out that we had to have choice otherwise the Matrix would go pear shaped!
sorry...just being a bit silly!

The Matrix can not go pear-shaped around here. Event horizons are roughly spherical (depending upon the speed of rotation), and this interface change strikes me as an event horizon of the nastiest sort (those having an illusion of escapability). Even if we can regain the ability to change the link and sidebar text colors, that will do nothing to salvage the problem of drop-down menus combined with disorganized clutter. Visitors to a site shouldn't have to burrow several levels deep to find their preferred forums. Are they that unimportant that they need to be buried in the catbox? Carolly

Im with Kate here too... It's too intrusive just to change background and text colors back the way they were...for members who have been here for awhile IMO.

Ah, quit complaining and fill out the information so they can send you spam, er, I mean, e-mails tailored to your individual tastes and interests. It's part of what keeps the site free. But, it does beg the question- why is any of that information "required" to change the colors of the site? Why isn't that entire section labeled "optional"? Why must people be pigeon-holed into specific categories? Let's see, I use Poser and Vue... does that make me a "Poser artist" or a "Vue artist" or a "mixed media artist"?

Maybe unintended consequences? Rendo members are stampeding towards the profile form for the first time in ages and they now discover it has additional required fields. I think it would be politic to make those fields optional.
