Subject: In Regards To The New Colors......

Michelle A. ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 7:32 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 8:55 AM

Whoa....talk about a blinding shock.... Well seems we're getting the light colors but they can be changed. I have found a compromise for myself that may work for others if you're interested in trying it..... I know that when I had my background set too dark I could not see the dark blue links (already visited).... I did a screen capture of the color in the drop down box and set these colors into my profile page: Background #6C6260 Text #FOFOFO shrug who knows it may work for you!

my congrats to the powers that be on the new look of the site, love the logo, the drop-downs, but I did change my colors back to white on black, will play around and see other color combos that work for me later.... Jack p.s. anybody got the color codes for fuscia and neon green?

Misha883 ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:20 PM

I now have the official "Michelle Designer Colors." Very easy on the eyes. Still looks sort of disconnected from the frames. But at least do not have to squint at that light gray.

cynlee ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:45 PM

fuscia=FF66CC neon green=99CC00 i'm undecided- but i feel it's too light what bothers me is on a lot of my work it was suppose to be viewed on black- like the circular blurred edged thumbs- now they're circles within a black square- kinda takes away from the image coming out of the background- yes, i could make it coming out of a beige background but what if another is viewing on grey or black? humph- so much for commenting in light yellow or any other light colors- but what if that person is viewing on another color background... a quandry

Michelle A. ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:48 PM

Mmmm...I hated the light background, and I made it a nice darker gray and couldn't see the blue links anymore.... I was very annoyed.... these colors are a compromise for me but they work and at least it's color cordinated now. Agreed with cyn, makes things difficult to say the least.

Things are still in a state of flux...the link colours and IM notifications etc. are still being worked on I believe. I like Michelle's flavours. I think people will tweak things to their own satisfaction and within a week or so will have forgotten the old interface, human nature being what it is! ;-)>

Every time I visit I can't help but try a different color scheme. I may never settle on a fixed set.

DHolman ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 11:43 PM

I think what bugs me is that I only have control over the color of the main window background and text. The links just don't look right with anything I've tried so far (the blue and purple) except a black background, but then the sidebar and header don't fit with it. :/ Will keep experimenting I guess until I find something I like. That was my problem with Usefilm.com. They went to a new setup that I think is horrendous (compared to the original). I go there now about once a month if that. -=>Donald

yep- i'm back! back in black- i do like the taupe though :]

Masema ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 2:46 AM

I went with the old default color scheme...everything looks and shows up nicely with the black background.

zhounder ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 4:36 AM

I did the old colors but greyed the text a bit. I still like the old scheme. But at least they listened and gave us choices back.

DHolman ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 5:31 AM

blah .... oh well, think I settled on bg of #000000 and text of #e8e8e8.

I had my background set to black but aesthetically, I don't think it mixes well with the browns. Then I thought, heck, I'm using the Resource Center colors instead, and it works for me! :-) text #000000 link #003470 visited link #2B55A2 background #D0D0D0 And I don't have to update the RC using the R'osity colors hahaha... ;-) (*

DHolman ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 2:55 PM

See, now this is cool. WIth control over the link colors, now you can come up with some good combinations. Send them my thanks for hopping on that so quickly please 'chelle. It's appreciated. And here's a hug for letting us know ... hehe. It's a sickness I have ... MAHD (Michelle Amarante Hugging Disease). But it's one I can live with. :) -=>Donald

When WILL people learn? If it's not broken, don't fix it! For the first time ever I'm of the opinion a big 2-fingers up to the powers that be, the chosen colours STINK and it's more hassle than it's worth spending hours of my life playing with colour schemes when I could be doing pics.... DevArt seems better each day..... (",)

DHolman ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 3:54 PM

Welp...I think I've decided on one for now. I tried to go with colors that were harmonious with the sidebar while still keeping it a bit low key and easy on the eyes. Anchored it on a color triad with the sidebar color as the base - and they said I never paid attention in art class. Ended up with: Background Color : #393231 Text Color : #DDD9D8 Link Color : #DDD9D8 Visited Link Color: #A8ACB3 -=>Donald

Misha883 ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 8:26 PM

I'm now trying Donald's color scheme. It does look much better, (yaa for Art School!). The site does look a bit "somber", but is useable. Also looks somewhat "cluttered" but I think that may evolve as the Forums change their individual banners.

DHolman ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 9:14 PM

Misha - you are right about that. Having that sidebar the medium muddy greyish brown that it is has sort of sucked the energy out of the site. I'm still trying to come up with a colorset that's more vibrant (which better fits the tone I think a site like this should have). Don't know if I can do it though...sidebar color stops me everytime. -=>Donald

DHolman ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 10:23 PM

Okay...even I am giving up. This is the palette I'm going to stick with unless someone comes up with a better one. Went back to a black background: Background Color : #000000 Text Color : #e0e0e0 Link Color : #e0e0e0 Visited Link Color: #991900 -=>Donald

I took a look at the html source code for an 'osity page, and was really quite amazed; no frames, no cascading style sheets... The Server is formatting fairly straightforward code using just tables for positioning. It is working pretty hard for all of the custom colors. No particular point to this observation. The sidebar colors, and the text in the sidebars appear to be hardcoded. I have no real problem with 'osity picking a fixed color scheme. With a fixed scheme we can know best how to present our images to everyone's browsers. I just am amused that an "art" site is not a bit more coordinated. I'll stay for awhile with Donald's #393231

Akinom ( ) posted Thu, 19 June 2003 at 7:33 AM

When looking at that layout I was shocked, don't like it at all! Started do change in different versions... was hard to decide. Donald's #393231 was ok and Chelle's #6C6260 works really well with the sidebar. But now I'm back to black and do not mind the sidebar...hehe. The most important thing is how the artworks look. And for me they are shown best with the black background :o) Here is my decision: Background Color : #000000 Text Color : #DDD9D8 Link Color : #99CCCC Visited Link Color: #00CCCC Perhaps I'll change the Visited Link Color, but the rest is now ok and I'll stay with this for a while. Hehe... I knew before... most of the artist, won't like the light colours. CU all in the galleries :o)... now back to black ;o)
