Most human Mocap systems are very expensive and used by movie studios to capture motion for Cg humans in films like titanic and final fantasy but i have heard of some low cost solutions that use video cameras for the mocap but they dont appear to be compatible with poser.

I thought of a solution, like Capturing via Video than Importing those Files in another Progie exporting a .bvh come on, there must be a way ;]

MoCap isn't the 'end-all & be-all' that some people hope for. If the model you apply it to, doesn't have the same demensions as the person that was MoCapped, the movement won't translate as well as it could. Twiching. Things bending wrong, etc.. It makes a mess of keyframes. All rotations, for every joint, on EVERY frame of the animation. It's an absolute mess to edit. A lot of the CG and video game houses usually do their animation by hand. In the long run, it takes less time and tends to look better.

I thougt of Mocap, as a solution for fast and exquisit animation? I was interested in SIMI and hoped to find someone here, how has done this jet. Have u done it Yet Norbert?

andygraph ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 7:36 AM

15/18.000 $ for SIMI ;-)

3dgRobi ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:16 AM

uuuuuuuuiiiiiiiiiiiiii !! Let me take a breath ;] They wrote something about the cheapest solution on the market! Anyway, i'll try to sort of rent a studio for a day, this should be much more affortable. But has anyone ever done this with Poser? I'm in a little bit cowered ;] because this projekt is important to me and i don't have much time on my hands :/

SIMI can export bvh for poser. anyway you can find this info in www.simi.com

3dgRobi ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:26 AM

what would u say about a 8 minute animation, a girl standing on a tribune doing things, walking from left to right side. How long is the postwork, after importing the bvh. How well does it really goes whith mocap?

andygraph ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:32 AM

I don't know , i believe if you make a good work on SIMI or a other mocap sistem, is not need make a big postwork on bvh in poser.

Anyway i have ask many many many time to curious labs, DAZ3D,credo-interactive,and other software-house, for create a COOL, VERY LOW COST, stand-alone tool about mocap automatic 2d tracking, and i have ask about it as Python script for poser Pro Pack ... ( look in python script forum ) I hope a future product about it, for Macintosh ( OS9.2.2 / OSX ) !! And pc (windows 98, NT, XP ) ;-) i hope .....

andygraph ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 8:53 AM

I have a idea !! why we do a list of mac/pc users to want a python mocap for poser4 pro pack and pay a little part of it example: 40 users pay 50 dollars = 2000 dollars for developed a python mocap, then this developed will can sell it for 50 dollars ! this 40 users will be beta-tester just a idea

Norbert: I have used motion capture files in Poser quite a bit. I select automatic scaling when I import the file and have never had any really bad adjustments to make. I wrote up a little tutorial on how to fix incorrect bending in this thread: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1290809 Check it out. All the best Joe www.3-AXIS.com

Unless yur' a person with a lot o' bucks and a tasty knacker for software as inexpensive as P5, realistic mocap won't be next to the Sony Playstation isle for years to come. With Poser 5 I suggest you look foward to your idea of getting your .BVH files from a rented studio. Or settle for a solution like the link I've provided.

andygraph ( ) posted Tue, 17 June 2003 at 2:27 PM

Visualmarker is a the best mocap software now, for poser and no only, i have aid the developed of it with the programmer. it's only for PC, i have use it with Virtual PC, and it's not have the automatic tracking. my idea is for a python similar to visualmarker but with a automatic advice for make mocap into poser more quickly another use of this python would can to be, create tracking camera from a footage ;-)

3dgRobi ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 9:29 AM

and it's not have the automatic tracking!!! Thats the Point! Why cant there be a software like Visualmarker, but whith automatik tracking. Its easy to use, bute its Rotoscoping, not Mocap! Or am i 2 stupid to find it? ;]

andygraph ( ) posted Wed, 18 June 2003 at 10:12 AM

visualmarker is a mocap software, but not in automatic mode ;-) but maybe markdc have a idea for a new software, hope for mac OS9 too: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12413&Form.ShowMessage=1280953
