Subject: Music in a thread....

Zhann ( ) posted Sun, 22 June 2003 at 1:05 AM · edited Sat, 08 February 2025 at 11:56 PM

This would be to Agent Smith I suppose....I was eboted from the News forum and there was a post that music had been embeded in a gallery comment.
I also learned from the Admin replies that any post that was found to have music embeded was immediately deleted.
I was wondering if that also applied to the forums, especially since this month's challenge is so closely tied to music...can we embed a midi file with the entry post, so that the viewer can hear what song was represented (we all seem to be so terrible at guessing)? Just curious to hear the answer (and dying to try it)...:]

Totally agree with you there. I feel that a topic like this needs to be experienced with more than one sense. I would love to be able to add the sound to my entry.

The only caveat here is that not everyone's sound card is created equal. I've heard sound cards that made my midi compositions sound symphonic, and some that sounded like a tuba in a metal-shredder. But I'd give the idea a go.

News to me, I remember Doc Legume embedding music in threads a couple of times here. But it's a good policy, because 99% of the time, embedded music is going to be a copyright violation.

Try this, I went to amazon.com and found my song. The link above is the 30 sec preview amazon gives at it's website. I right clicked on the link and selected "copy link location" then pasted it into this thread. While it's not the whole song it does let you post a preview with your picture.

Thanks for the link, if AgentSmith lets us use it it will make life so much easier and I think will make the images stand our, or more understandable. Catlin

The Admins said it 'slows down the entire site' and that's why no music.....I almost put a link here but when I thought about there would be no way to shut it off, so the entire song would play out, all 11 mins... Lets see what AS has to say...

Try this link. It's to night on bald mountain. Only a 30 second preview. It will take you away from the image to a new page though.

electroglyph ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2003 at 12:02 PM

Just tried it. It opens the player not the page. It also servs off of Tip.emusic.com not renderosity so it should be alright by the admins. How about it AgentSmith?

I have that in midi formant in about 5 different arrangements, the trouble with .wav and mp3 files is the downloading, they're bigger files and can take up to 2 mins to download depending on the listner/viewers computer speed. Midis on the other hand take seconds to load and play. I've been collecting high quality midis of popular songs and original composers(with permission) to offer for download on my site. This includes, new age, classical, classic rock, jazz, blues...... The link has Night on Bald Mountain in mid....excuse the wip.....

WOW, I'm SO sorry I didn't see this thread of yours, I don't know how I missed it... I would LOVE to give this to you, but I can't. I've re-read discussions with my bosses, and it's not going to be possible. It sounds like the website programmers will soon be making sure midi's can't be added. It's not really the midi's, but the fact that if this becomes popular, it won't be long before someone with the smarts starts trying to find a way to put malicious code in the place of a midi. Also, to have the music playing could be seen as a copyright violation from the author/owner of the music. So, we have to avoid that. Sorry. :o( AgentSmith
