Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 26 2:05 pm)
You're talking about Poser5? Poser4 is dual format isn't it? Anyway, running an app (particularly a memory intensive app like Poser) is always going to be significantly slower on Virtual PC simply because you're running one OS on top of another. VirtualPC is supposed to be more efficient than it was but you'll always be better off running an app natively. I'd wait for P5 on the mac or Daz Studio. Baz PS - Ooooo I wish I could afford one of the new G5s!
The new G5's look awesome. I just surfed the Apple site & with the new Safari version available, iChat AV, & a preview of Panther I felt like a kid in a candy store (unfortunatly a kid with no money, good job all Apples iApps are free). I use Virtual PC 6 & I wouldnt dream of running an app like Poser on it, its way too slow, VPC is only good for viewing those wierd PC files that friends or clients might send you, or previewing your website to see what it looks like to PC people. Poser4 runs great in classic & Poser5 & Daz studio will be out soon for OSX, hmmmm.....decisions, decisions. PS, The new version of Safari rips through this site really quickly.
Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?

That's tooooo bad (v PC). But doesn't vpc use the full power of the twin turbo G5? That should speed things up.... it's like having two MACs in one! Anyway, the sad news is a G5 fully loaded would cost $20,000 (incl software, etc) G5 Twin turbo 8 Gigabytes of DDR 2 x 250GB Harddrive Radeon 9800 Pro Cinema HD 23" display SuperDrive Airport Extreme iPod 30GB Z 680 THX Speakers .Mac Final cut pro DvD studio Photoshop 7 Canon EOS 10D Canon XL-1S Mini DV Virtual PC 6 okay.... I think that's enough, but get my picture?I would be carefull about putting too much store into VPC because its now owned by Micro$oft. They may well decide to improve the product (hmmm) or them may decide to shelve the Mac version to concentrate on making multiple versions of Windows run on PC machines (a sort of a Classic for PC). Because of the arrival of Safari, keynote & many other apps that are stepping on Bill Gate$'s toes (like he doesnt have enough money already) I think the Micro$oft & Mac friendship may well be over & we could return back to the old operating system cold war. With regards to poser I would recommend buying a Mac versions of the product anyway (if you have a Mac of course) purely to support Mac development (look whats happened to Bryce). Surely choice is a good thing? I hope Daz studio does come out soon, I'm intigued by the screenshots, it looks good.

Thanks for the warning. We stopped buying M$ products a long time ago. We will still buy windows products as long as M$ doesn't make it. I can understand why Mac didn't buy VPC... gate$ could just change or hide the code and give Jobs a big fat headache. the bryce-mac was so sad. Probably soon m$ will own everything. But personally, I think gate$ found out what Neo already knows... as you said, Inevitably, the problem is choice!

Is anyone running Poser (Win version) on Mac? If so, is Poser running smooth? fast or sluggish? I saw the new G5s and boy do we want one. If Virtual PC can deliver... I guess we don't need Athlon64 or Pentium 5.
