How do I make a 3D gold text in Photoshop. I have version 5.5.

I believe there's a Bevel tool in there (I use PaintShoPro), which can be used, in conjunction with layers to create "3D" text - I remember someone writing a VERY brief tutorial in one of the forums after I commented on the text on that person's website; I've found the easiest way, however, is to use plug-ins; Alien Skin's excellent Eye Candy package creates decent metallic effects, and I think there are some packages just to create good 3D text (you could also probably use Ulead's Cool 3D, and screen capture if you don't have the full version, as a cheap alternative).

Here is a quick way: 1) create your text, color white 2) click on Filter>Render>Lighting Effects (you will be prompted to render the text) 3) choose "Soft Omni" for style 4) choose "omni" for light type 5) click on the color square, and choose a gold tone 6) move the sliders to metalic and shiny 7) in the preview window, move and size the light over your text. 8) click OK 9) use the Layer>Effects>bevel and emboss to finish!

If I were going to do that, then why do all of that, and just create text, and go to Layer>Effects?bevel and emoboss?? Before that thought make the text a gold color. Geez, that's a lot of work for such a simple task. I was hopping for something more dramatic. Thanks anyways.

I use KPT gel to make gold text. it works well. There's also a Paint Shop Pro tutorial out there somewhere that shows how to make rather nice gold text. I wish I could remember where it is, but if you look for PSP tutorials you should be able to find it.
