Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 27 4:53 pm)
That is possible - BUT - in my case, I bought the same exact drive - brand, model, same buffer (the WD 80GB 7200rpm with the 8MB buffer) for the replacement. And - I've also run P5 on my AMD (different brand hard drives and other components) with no issues. Both systems I've run it successfully on have had Win2k with Service Pack 3, minimal apps (Poser, Bryce, Outlook, IE. A few utilities here and there, but no odd ones. No AOL or messenger-type apps though - those tend to mess with a lot of stuff. I'm going to find that dang installer and take it back to ground zero one more time to satisfy my own curiousity, that'll tell me whether it's the patch.
Mine ran well with sr2.1 and below. Problems with sr3 and mostly just that its set for higher screen resolution than I personally prefer. So I have 2.1 installed as an overwrite to 3 and I'm very happy, even if it doesn't have the other benefits of 3. Write to CL and see if they will make 2.1 available for you.
Even though one of the patches removed that ::censored:: copy protection, I wonder if something still hangs out somewhere and causes problems. New buyers wouldn't have the problem. But for early adopters reinstalling on a new harddrive would be the perfect opportunity to install Poser 5 and NOT REBOOT before installing the patches. That's what I did so I never got any of that junk going in the first place.
Welcome to the EVM! ;-) I still have the SR 2.1, so if you can't find yours and can't get it from CL, let me know. (It's a free patch so I can't see why CL would have a problem if I got it to you.) Hmmm ... installing P5 then immediately installing SR2.1 without a reboot. That's an interesting idea. I'll have to try that the next time I redo my system. (SR 3 didn't offer any fixes that I needed, so I didn't put it on my system.) Cheers!

SR 2.1 detaches Poser 5 from the Pace protection software, but does not remove the Pace protection software (at least in part because doing so could disable other software on your system, if you ahve/had anything else which uses Interlok). a small variety of "fixes" have been suggested, from deleting files in the Windows folder tree and editing the registry to installing the developer version which then allows you to uninstall Interlok (which otherwise does not show up for uninstallation). Just visited the parent page - apparently down for maintenance. Probably they had a security issue . I'm happy to host the file for a short while, but accept no liability for anything it does or does not do, including eating your hampster. It's about 4.33MB and should be at the link given by the time u read this.Attached Link: http://www.who3d.com
Yup, same WhoD / Cliff Bowman. The Tenth Planet reconstruction is currently going at snails pace, partly because we've got other projects on hand at the moment (often the case) and partly because it's summer in the UK. This great big yellow thing keeps climbing into the sky and making the world really hot - we've got scientists on it trying to work out what's going on but in the meantime everyone is lethargic and confused. However the project is *far* from abandoned, and what little effort goes towards it specifically generally goes well :) We could do with more Poser-capable bodies to try and re-create faces though (but management is the biggest bug-bear - I'm always behind trying to manage the projects/respond to people outside the group). Cheers, Cliff BowmanI have similar problems with sr3 . I never saw a lot of the problems people were complaining about prior to this update. I'll try to reinstall sr2.1 on top of sr3. I just wonder if anyones troubles with pre sr3 were fixed with sr3. Maybe CLs is trying to find a common point where everyones Poser 5 is messed up ,and they can begin fixes from there.

I rue the day I uninstalled and then reinstalled (just last week) with SR3. Just last week, it was stable, running really smooth and even pretty fast with SR2.1 (not to mention 2GB of RAM and 2Ghz processor). I mean, I had almost ZERO issues other than the Firefly renderer being just a little slow. And only a little. I never had the issues everyone spoke of. For me, P5 was a a dream app that ran as promised, and ran well. But the system unfortunately needed a new drive, so I had to go from the ground up with the OS and apps. I'm now seeing all the issues everyone complained about in months past, except I'm seeing them with SR3. Slow. Locks. Grinds forever then locks. Jeez. (BIG SHRUG) Well, SR2.1 is no longer up for download on CL. I know I've got it on a disk somewhere around here, but just can't find it in the mess. I'm wiping it off here 'til I find SR 2.1. No way in hell I'll put SR 3 back on. I sympathize with all of you who had to put up with this for months. --Donnie
