Subject: Someone want to beta a houseplant?

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 11:31 AM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 8:32 AM

I'm about to upload a plant to added as a freebie. Anyone want to try it out to verify I don't have any broken links? IM me if you are interested (include your email address, please:) The file is only 236K (zip). Mac folks will have to use maconverter, I would imagine. eric

No time to beta, Eric... but it sure is one nice plant :) ziggie

Thanks Ziggie:) Does anyone else have trouble with the attached link (I'll rename file once I get confirmation that there is nothing missing!) Please post if you try to download it with success or fail (one person reported the inability to access the file!) Thanks, Eric

Fredy ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 1:42 PM

Success! Download is ok! No problem! :-)

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 1:48 PM

Fredy, did the props open up ok (all four having different textures...no comlaints about missing geometries or anything?) eric

Fredy ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 1:57 PM

Very quick beta check ;-) Boston fern: it looks for "geometriesfauna", but zippath is "geometriespropsfauna", with corrected path it searches for "B-FernA.tif", which is missing. the other three are ok. but all of them are displayed in cartoon style... strange. but rendered they look like very fine plants. checked with P4Pro German...

BonBonish ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 2:41 PM

I downloaded too your zip. For the Boston fern I got that there is no B-FernA.tif and there is no B-FernA-trans.gif. Yes, the other three are ok. and as Fredy got I got too- all of them are displayed in cartoon style. And when I rendered they looked fine. I tested with P4 and P4Pro, english edition.

Yeah, sorry about that. I removed the bad one and put a corrected version up. Here is the link I sent "freestuff" just now (uploaded it under a new account to reflect the domain that I plan to start a web site at)

As for the cartoon thing, the fern has a transparency map, so I made it cartoony to make it easier to move around. The other's just sort of absorbed that attribute during tile mangling....oops:) 'Tis corrected!

BTW, the link in post #9 is hopefully the official version. If you want to grab the plants now before the folks approve my link, feel free. I'll post here if there is a change that I made due to comments from users. eric

thanks eric- plants in poser are like jello lol- allways room for more :)

dlk30341 ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 8:16 PM

What the hell....I keep getting page not found..no matter what link I try.....:(

Spit ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 8:22 PM

I get a host not found message. If it's a new domain, maybe it hasn't propagated through the system yet.

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 9:08 PM

Actually, the domain should have been in place for a couple of weeks now. However, the guy that hosts it has had some problems with getting some of the other addresses worked out..perhaps something isn't 100% accurate? Are you guys getting different errors? Can you see the following page (not very exciting page, by the way:) www.mambanegra.com If you can't see that, then it is undoubtedly a DNS problem (either someone has some bad info, or there is some sort of routing problem.) If you can get to the regular web site (www.mambanegra.com) and not the download site, let me know....it's something I've done. If you can't see mambanegra.com, then I'll have to talk with my host (who is currently out of town:( eric

Spit ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 9:42 PM

Nope. Can't even get mambanegra.com

Marque ( ) posted Sat, 28 June 2003 at 11:57 PM

I just got it from the second link. Checking it now Marque

My iguana's think that not only do your plants look Great, they taste good too. (: I especially like the fern. Thank you. Genny

BonBonish ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 12:48 PM

I dowloaded the second version ... it works great... thanks eric- plants in poser are like jello lol- allways room for more :) as geoegress put it so nicely. BonBonish

Spit ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 2:29 PM

Well, sometimes you can't get there from here. LOL Still no luck.

bknoh ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 3:03 PM

I can't get them either, Spit. (waving "Hi!)

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 9:31 PM

Well, I was hoping it would clear up. I did notice last night one of the name servers that were responsible for the domain weren't responding to pings. As of a few minutes ago, they both are responding normally. I'll forward this thread to the guy who is responsible for the machine...perhaps he can figure out what might be the cause. We'll have it straightened out as soon as possible, I'm sure (I hope I didn't do something wrong.....I write software, so setting a few priviledges on a couple silly files would be absolutely humiliating...at least when others are watching!) eric

EricTorstenson ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 9:33 PM

Genny, I'm glad your iguanas like the plants:) They look pretty nice together, I must say! eric

bknoh ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 9:44 PM

I have the same guy, Eric and I think he often works on the servers on the weekends. Diane

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 29 June 2003 at 10:15 PM

Still getting page not found for the link in #9 and also for www.mambanegra.com. Been that way all day.

igohigh ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 3:43 PM

Still getting Page Not Found here and at PoserPro.... Genny; make sure your iggy getts plenty of sunshine too ;) And as a good supplement also give him some ZooMed Iguana Pellets, besides most ferns are actually poisonous...

bknoh ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 5:35 PM

The link is working!

Spit ( ) posted Mon, 30 June 2003 at 7:26 PM

Not for me :(

mamba-negra ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2003 at 12:02 AM

Hey Spit, keep trying over the next day or two. Josh deleted an entry from his DNS config and it will take time to propagate. It's one of those things that shouldn't have the effect we saw, but.....you never know. Certainly worth trying again in a few hours. Please let me know if anyone else who couldn't access it now has access! eric

cherokee69 ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2003 at 5:14 AM

Nope, still can't get there.

igohigh ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2003 at 3:15 PM

I agree, still file not found. Too bad, they look really nice :(

mamba-negra ( ) posted Wed, 02 July 2003 at 1:07 PM

OK A little more info....and maybe some good news. I got confirmation that the DNS update failed Sunday night, so while the change was made, it didn't get propagated like we had hoped. The change was made again, which should clear things up (I hope) Probably should give it a day or so before trying, but I think it will happen:) eric

Spit ( ) posted Wed, 02 July 2003 at 8:20 PM

Still not working for me but I'll keep trying.
