Subject: Does Anyone know How to Move a Document Window?

Daisybel ( ) posted Tue, 01 July 2003 at 7:34 AM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 7:02 AM

I don't have a very large monitor so my doc window and palletes overlap. In Painter, I'm able to drag the doc window where I want it to be. I thought in PS I could do the same thing but heck If I can find out how! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Daisy, if you have your window MAXIMIZED you can't move it as it fills the whole screen.

If you "click" on the RESTORE DOWN button, you can resize the document window to whatever "shape-n-size" you want. Just click on the BLUE BAR to move it around...

Let me know if this helps (or if i'm offbase with your problem)

Thanks for the idea. I tried that some time ago, but I find the blue bar a distraction when making desicions concerning color. So, I work with a maximized document window to move that pesky blue bar further away from my doc. But wait a minute, I noticed in your above examples that there are not blue? Is there a way to change that bar color surrounding the document to, say, a gray like I have in my interface? Then I would just have the doc file info which is easy to live with and my problem is solved! Thanks for the tips! Daisy P.S. How do you include an image along with text when posting a message here?

Hope that helps (would of included a pic but i couldn't get it to work) josh

Thanks Josh for the helpful tip. I'm using XP OS and some of the options are different to change the apperance, but I was still able to get the same result. Thanks again, Daisy

Why not hide the pallets? On a PC you press "TAB" I'm not sure what key to press on a Mac but look in your PS helpfiles. To bring up the color pallet you can use one of the function keys on a PC, so for Mac look at the helpfiles. To get rid of all distraction on a PC the "F" key gives you fullscreen mode, must work on Mac as well. M v h Mten

Another quick idea that I use a lot is just double-clicking on the title bar for the palettes. That minimizes them until you need them, when you just double-click again to view them. For me, it's an easy fix because my tablet pen only needs one press of a button to double-click, but it does work pretty well, especially for those who are on smaller screen sizes. Darah

Hey, I like that "TAB" button to collapse all the palletes at the touch of a key. Sure beats indvidually collapsing each pallet with the mouse! Thanks for the tip. Daisy

If you just want the palettes on right turned off but still keep the tool bar on left, use Shift - Tab.

There is also cool use for pause(not that tiny on top of keyb. but that wide button closest to you :)) When you hold it, your tool is temporaly replaced by dragging hand icon. Exttremely handy on small monitors. in WIN ctrl and +- on numeric keypad changes zoom level, cant be too different on mac. Numpad 0 with ctrl zooms to 100 percent.
