I just wanted to say.. If you guys haven't read SnowSultan's new tutorial on how to make cartoon-like renders in Poser, then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! It's a brilliant technique and it's so easy too. Only postwork on this pic is the shadow and the text :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

I had to give it a shot last night. Very cool. Oh, and here's something nifty to add. You actually CAN conform stuff, if you parent it as well. Just drag and drop it onto the figure on the hierarchy editor.

Excellent! I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to soon. SnowSultan did a great job on the tutorial :-)

Wow, thanks for all the nice comments! FyreSpirit, that's a very interesting discovery! I will have to try conforming clothing that way and if it makes any significant difference, I'll add it to the tutorial. :) Thanks again! SnowS

I'm working on the tutorial now, SnowS. It's so easy to follow. Usually I find that steps are missing from them and I get stuck but not this one - at least not yet ;-) Very well written :-)

Try this technique with Vicky pinups! Since yesterday after reading this tutorial I've been creating fantastic Vargas style images with models wearing fully detailed texture maps and Koz-Daz hair. Using multiple lights also works great - no more than three seems to be best. Excellent technique for 1940's pinup art and Bomber Girl Nose Art! Just incredible how this technique makes them look hand air-brushed! I've also done images with a Harley chopper freebie using Sketch Presets and it really transforms their uses. This technique really solves problems I was having before with Sketch Renders and makes the effects much more like true artwork. Can't say enough to thank SnowSultan for this brilliant idea!

I also stumbled over another fun effect using this technique. On this picture I have used the lights from a sketch-render light set. It makes the image almost stand out in something neither 2D nor 3D. Sorta like a plaque I think.

ernyoka, what does the japanese text mean ? andrew

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 07 July 2003 at 7:38 AM

According to babelfish it means something like "A drawing for SnowSultan" (or actually Snow king, as it wouldn't translate Sultan) No I don't speak japanese but it looks pretty G And it sorta fits these anime-images.

thanks, ernyoka. it looks really cool.

Thank you ernyoka!...I couldn't read enough Japanese to see what you wrote but it's very thoughtful! :) Haha, doesn't matter if Babelfish didn't get Sultan right; it's just a silly nickname someone gave me a few years ago when I was building a giant snowman. ;) Thanks to everyone who's commented and used my tutorial, it means a lot to me. Take care! SnowS
