Has anyone EVER gottengood art fronm the Sketch Designer? The hype for it is truly half the reason I upgraded to P4 but I have NEVER gotten anything decent from it! Advise? Presets? Or does everyone just ignore it?

Given that what you posted is about as good as it gets; is that not art? Or at least something ready for post-work? You can sketch render with a thick outline, paste to background, and then render normally to get a figure with a hard edge. That's the most I use I find for it lately.

Here is the best I've been able to do:

Sketch.jpg If you want to try it click the image to download the preset. Unzip and place in Poser 4/Runtime/prefs/SketchPresets `dan

I think you can get good work out of the sketch render. I've been concentrating on it for the last two days. The thing is, you have to learn all the various presets in there and what each one of them does. That's what I've been doing. I've almost gotten it to do what I want it to do. Now it's just tweaking the settings

Talent is God's gift to you. Using it is your gift to God.

The sketch designer feature in Poser4 is great..pitty very few bother with it!.. and YES, it can come up with true art and much better results if you are patient with the dials! Diane had done a wonderful job and too many exquisite examples when Poser4 came out! As for me...I admit I've only played once with it in my AutumnWindow image and I think I've saved the preset if you care for it! :o) Check it out at this link since I"m lousy at adding images to my replies! :o) http://poserworld.com/fairywoods/gallery/AutumnWindow.jpg renapd

I've not used sketch designer often but have been pleased with the results. Here's a couple of samples. http://www.fractalus.com/jack/portrait/ladywithfan.jpg http://www.fractalus.com/jack/human/departure.jpg Jack Valero

I love the sketch render, I put in regular pics for the background and sketch render them, get some great results kinda like a filter in photoshop. Chris

Thanks for showing. Jack your links were bad but I got around fine from your index page. I love the "paper" Young at Heart is on, where'd you get it?

jval ( ) posted Mon, 26 June 2000 at 6:20 PM

If I recall correctly I didn't use a "paper". Instead it was the crumple effect in the Xenofex filter set from Alien Skin Software http://www.alienskin.com/index.html

I just posted a message about all this a few minutes ago. Guess I should have read a little further first! It does sound like there is an interest in getting good results from the Sketch Render feature. I will post some images soon. I have been working on an oil/palette knife set and a stipple set along with a few other "style" sets of this type. Watch for 'em. 3Don

Don, This oils/palette knife etc. sounds so cool. I can't wait!

The Sketch Designer is the best thing since sliced bread. Rule #1: Always render large images. If you render a small image you will lose the details. If the examples above had been rendered at 5-10 times the size, they would have shown a tremendous amount of detail. When using the default scratchboard on a small sized image it can yield a less than perfect result. The same image rendered at a larger size (5-10 times larger) can yield a classic illustration. Rule #2: Always render large images! Rule #3: Always render large images!!!! If you are planning on doing still images, combining multiple renders in photoshop can yield spectacular results. Try combining different techniques such as sketch-pastel or scratchboard pastel. P.S. Experiment. Render an image using the sketch designer at 300x400 then at 1200 x 1600. You will be amazed. Will
