A little late, but... My download of the month for July is this weird little alien dude. He's still a bit rough and the only texture is for his eyes, he's just a WIP really, but he's fun to play around with and if you want him, he's available on my Renderosity Home Page/Artist Page/whatever the hell you call it. Have fun!:)

PS: I'm going to leave the BL-E5 droid figure up for a few more days, too, if anybody wants him.

" PS: I'm going to leave the BL-E5 droid figure up for a few more days, too, if anybody wants him." Cool, think I missed that one ;) The weird little alien dude is neat

Thanks. He's just something I've been playing around with. Btw, that thing at the top right of the pic is a foot. He has two toes in front and one in back, all posable (a little anyway;)). Also, if you convert the eye map to TIF or BMP, he should work fine in Poser 3. I've included a link to the droid thread, too.:)

Berserga ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 10:59 AM

I like him. He actually looks kinda like some sketches from the roswell crash. :D

Netherworks ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 11:04 AM

geez - I guess I didn't miss him - but I hadn't downloaded him ;) smacks head

Thank you for posting this here instead of free stuff. If only everyone else would follow your lead I would never have to visit free stuff again!

whiff There goes the sarcasm...

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 11:56 AM

Actually, ragman, your sarcasm wasn't unobserved. But personally I chose to pretend noone would be so inpolite as to make a fuss of someone giving something for free. ah well you learn something new every day sigh

Well, Ragman, if hoarders wouldn't suck my limited bandwidth dry within minutes, then I could post this in Free Stuff. Unfortunately, it ain't so.:( Besides, I like to reward people who actually use the forums and are a part of the community rather than the folks who just go from site to site with the sole intention of looking for handouts and never participate in anything.

Ragman ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 2:00 PM

Sorry if it seems like I'm taking this out on you; I just get sick of seeing things in the forums that should be either in the galleries orhat you're willing to give something away for free like free stuff. I appreciate the fact t that, but I fail to see how 1)you're wasting your bandwidth by putting something in free stuff any more than you would be to post it on your artists page and 2)why these people looking for handouts couldn't just come to the forum here and grab it. And ernyoka: I'm sorry that you don't understand my point. Guess ya learn something new every day...

Ragman ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 2:07 PM

Okay, my post got screwwed up somehow. I forget what all that gibberish is supposed to say now.

CryptoPooka ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 2:07 PM

Generally, only people that really give a damn delve deep enough into the forums to find these -- or can be bothered to actually look at artist pages. Whereas the instance of: "It's free, TAKE IT ALL!" users is grotesquely high for Free Stuff. I think it was Dark Whisper (I could be wrong) that brought up a perfect example. He'd only sold a certain number of a certain store product. In contrast, an add-on in free stuff that could ONLY be used with that product had been downloaded at least TWENTY TIMES more than it had sold. (And look, ma, I didn't even respond to the language used, ooooo.)

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 2:58 PM

Oh I DO understand your point. It seems you do not understand MINE. Ah well, so be it. Personally I intend to keep posting larger pics than those itty-bitty thumbnails of my stuff when I feel like it. And I also intend to keep telling the Poser Users about them. Sorry if it disturbs you that people want to give something away for free.

Oh come on all of you, wind down already lol! And Ragman, you may have noticed, your sarcasm was ill placed here. But you don't have to apologise, it can be sooo difficult to do that :o) Thanks for the little blue guy x2000, he's really cute. Definitely going into a project of mine that's finally lifted. I especially like his face, too cool! :] Fish

FishNose ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 5:16 PM

... oh, and I wrote a song once (it was my record debut nearly 10 yrs ago) called "Of course there's life on Mars!" It had a verse that went "They've got four arms not two I guess that's true But they're just like me and you except they're blue" And this dude is pretty close to my mental picture. Just a little skinnier round the hips and a couple more arms and he's perfect! :] Fish

x2000 ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 6:52 PM

Would you believe I almost gave him four arms, but then I got lazy and said to hell with it? So close...;) Keep your eyes on my Artist Page in the months to come, because I plan on doing a lot more aliens.:)

Ragman ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 8:29 PM

Ernyoka you obviously don't understand my point based on your quote: "Sorry if it disturbs you that people want to give something away for free." Now where did I say that again? I think the point here is that this forum would be trash if everyone had the attitude that (another quote): "Personally I intend to keep posting larger pics than those itty-bitty thumbnails of my stuff when I feel like it." But that's just my opinion. I guess, Ernyoka, you would gladly give up good technical Poser discussion for a little self promotion. Now I know that that's you business, but it's going to affect me if I can't find answers to my questions because the forum's so bogged down under things like "look at this cool pic I made" or "look at my free stuff". And x2000, like I said (In case FishNose missed it), I'm sorry if it seems like I'm taking this out on you. I really have nothing against you, or any of the people in this thread.

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 9:47 PM

land 'o Goshen..didn't mean to step on anyone's toes..I don't have anything against anyone selling something. The stuff's better quality, and it's better supported. All I meant was, if you want to do free stuff, it's your stuff, so if you charge or not, that's your business. I can't charge anything for my stuff (well, someone has to ask for it first..;) because I can be terminated for 'running a business on the Internet'..so if I ever get to distributing things, they have to be free..hey, if you can get money for it, even $99 for a basketball model, it's a free Internet..;)

Ragman, As a SysOp for Compuserve for ages and ages, let me tell you that a forum which concentrates upon one thing only becomes boring, boring, boring and it dies of attrition. There were 3-4 places there where people could discuss Magic: the Gathering. There were also players who only wanted rules discussions... no playing of games, no trading, and certainly no conversation about anything other than Magic. Mention your cat and they'd throw a hissyfit if not a virtual hairball. :pffft: The forum which died first was the most restrictive. The forum which allowed trading and had an open league for playing the game as well as conversation about rules and anything else which we wanted to discuss (cats, chocolate, opera, the space program, and electronic toys?) has had to move under a couple of different wizops as CIS shut down the smaller forums, but I've kept my Fire-Breathing Black Sheep together since 1994. We are still playing Magic online via the message boards, still trading, and still talking about whatever pleases us. We also meet ftf in Ohio every year. We are friends in a friendly place. If we'd only discussed one narrow topic, we'd never have known each other as people. So you are only interested in Poser techniques? I'd suggest that you get a manual and Mortimer Shamm's how-to book. There's a FAQ and a backroom with answers, too. If you want to be part of a community, you need to accept the fact that we are all human, full of human quirks, and showing off a work we just finished, or offering a gift, or talking about the vagueries of the hardware, or even complaining about the weather are all part and parcel of what makes us human. If this forum limited itself to technical information, it would be... boring, boring, boring. And we wouldn't want that, would we? Carolly

Ragman ( ) posted Thu, 10 July 2003 at 8:34 AM

Thank you for putting it that way then. I'll be sure to display my "human quirks" every time I've finished an image. Speaking of which, make sure you check out my gallery. It's just starting out, and could probably use more publicity than you guys.
