THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: I have an idea (ow that hurt!)

burgi ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 7:47 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 2:59 PM

why can't people add comments about free stuff like they do on other community sites. and idea thing 2 was: i'm not sure about this months challenage, have i got it right? i am to create 5 random PROCEDUAL textures and then make a scene JUST using them? 'cos if so that doesn't sound as hard as i originally thought. Abstracts are my best qualities :] John

uhhhh what was you idea again making comments on freebies well thats not bad... id say ratings would be better.. gud luck on the contest!

Ornlu ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 8:16 PM

Ratings...Few posts down we basically determined that ratings were useless =P. However, I like this idea.

like it! :] is that bump mapping or the actual shape? why do my post turn surreal VERY quickly? where do socks go when you put them in the washing, i only get one back usually? i've just finished digitising my photography work from school, something i should have done 4 years ago when i could remember WHY i took them, and when they weren't so damaged. its gonna take a lot of 'shopping to restore them to their former glory! later froodz! John PS: what is DTE? i can't work it out!

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 9:58 PM

and in the morning..I'm makin' waffles

look I CANNOT SPELL!!!!!!! i jus' wanted to check that it meant i couldn't throw a picture through a load of random PS filters and use that...! oops... you where only joking.... never mind.... John

Slakker ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 10:25 PM

nope. DTE = Deep Texture Editor. The waffles are models made in Wings, and the sky was done in The GIMP (free photoshop-ish program)

burgi ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 10:35 PM

ah i see.... the GIMP a wonderful little program. pity the BeOS port doesn't work :[ is wings worth getting? John PS: i'm still sock hunting.... that'll be a great challenge for august... The Great Sock Hunt..... discuss!

Zhann ( ) posted Wed, 09 July 2003 at 10:47 PM

Nope, no textures run thru PS or PSP, you have to start from scratch in the DTE to make your materials AND yes you need to use them, not exclusively, in a render....;]

Wings is free, they fix bugs faster than lickety-split, and with a couple of tutorials, you can do amazing things. Yeah, I'd say it's worth it..;) They frequently come out with upgrades as well. Stop by the Wings site, or the forum here, and see what it can do

Da Smith has spoken! so when can we see it implemented? John

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 11 July 2003 at 1:44 PM

I'll put it up in front of bosses, make sure it is on our wish list. Sometimes even when everybody (staff) loves an idea, the sites programmers have to do a lot of work for said "idea", but...sometimes it can happen overnight. I LOVE the idea. I'll keep ya informed. Another Freestuff idea we're trying to implement is the fact that a model (or whatever) may be posted by a member under say Poser, or Cinema 4D, but in fact the model is just an .obj, or .3ds file and almost anyone with a 3D program could use it. Or, the file actually will be for Cinema 4D (.c4d), but will also include .obj's, etc. Basically, if a members upload could apply to multiple areas, we want the item to reflect that, so even more members would KNOW they could use it. Right now, there a number of freestuff items that members don't realize they could use just because it is under Cinema 4D and not Bryce. Anyway, I'll get back here with any info about your idea as it comes out. AgentSmith
