Subject: poser animation?

Hi All, Does anyone know of a plugin or a way to export a poser model (and it's animations) to either a 3DS file or a directx file? I keep going around in circles to try and do this one thing and it seems to be impossible. I can save a poser file into a bunch of 3DS files (one per frame). I can go to 3d studio max and use the info to morph one frame into another, so it looks like the poser animation. BUT, I can't save morphs into a 3ds file. I found a plugin that saves 3ds files into an X file, BUT that also can't save morphs. I can save a poser animation file within poser, but that can't be read by anything but poser. Is there any way to save a poser figure, with animations into ANY file that can be read by 3d studio max, or something that reads x files? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, john...

Maximum Pose II by Konan might be what you want. http://www.ev.ca/konan/maximum_pose.htm Poser Pro Pack might have what you want, too. http://www.curiouslabs.com

Hi, Thanks for the quick reply, but, sadly, no to both. I have Poser pro pack and it can only save one file per frame. And Maximum Pose II can import a poser file to 3d studio max, but that just morphs one frame into the next. It's a great tool, but I can do that manually. I can't save the morphing information into a 3ds file. So, I only end up with one frame when I export. I wish it did work, believe me. thanks, john...

We also just released the new version of the max plugin based on the propack code. plays back all your poser animation, and the new version is supporting dynamic hair and cloth. cheers! -Josh

john, with the new bodystuido plugin, and the old propack, you save out a .pz3 file, and then import it as a poser primitive in max. The animation will play back. Let me know if you had wanted it to do something different? cheers! -Josh

Hi Josh, Bodystudio sounds like Maximum Pose II. Does it import poser animations into 3d studio max by morphing one frame into the next? What I want to do is export the figure and all the animations into one 3ds (or directX) file (and I can't do this with anything that uses the morpher). I want to use the exported file in a darkbasic program I'm working on. Plus, $179 is a lot for me. Is there a freeware, shareware, or demo version, so I can test and make sure it does what I want? I've even tried the Poser to 3d studio max plugin, but I can't even install THAT! It installs pzrfor3ds for V3 and I have 3d studio max V4. I downloaded the latest from Curious labs, but that says it can't find 3d studio max, and get this... 3d studio max is spelled wrong on the error message (doesn't instill me with a lot of confidence). Thanks again, john...

LOL, how'd they spell it in the old installer? :) The propack versions of the plugin don't use morphing. The object comes in as a new type of primative (poser) and then the animation will play back inside Max. But it might present the same type of problem if you're exporting to directx. The bones don't come through yet... What are the requirements for a character if you're exporting to darkbasic? cheers! -Josh

Hi Josh, They say something like "3d sutdio max can't be found". So, are you saying that Bodystudio does NOT use morphing to make the poser figure animate? If I import a poser file using bodystudio, can I export the figure into a 3ds file and have it include all the animations? As far as I know, the only requirements is that it's an X file or a 3ds file. Darkbasic isn't the problem. I can load an object into darkbasic. The problem is that I can't find a mechanism to save a poser figure and animations into ONE 3ds or Xfile. thanks, john...

This version of BodyStudio runs poser as an engine inside of max. So when the pz3 file is loaded, it gets stored in memory (not as a series of polygonal objects). Each time you go to a new frame, the figure will change just as if you were playing back the animation in Poser. If DarkBasic is a type of game engine, it probably would need a version of our engine that would play back the poser file inside of DarkBasic. Does the darkbasic run a game engine based on exporting bones to directx?
