Subject: Gallery Browsing Idea

erviin ( ) posted Thu, 10 July 2003 at 12:32 PM · edited Wed, 26 February 2025 at 6:54 AM

Perhaps someone already posted an idea like this one (it's not very original after all) but I don't have right now the time to check all other messages.
My point is, if I wanna browse through an Artist's gallery I must go back & forth from the gallery page (or open images in new window).
My idea is: Why not include a first, previus, next, last links that will navigate to the first (oldest) image posted by that artist, to the last (newest) image posted by that same artist, and to the previous and next images posted than the currently viewed. This is just like the same links on the gallery pages, that show N amount of thumbs per page, but instead of that would directly show the images (one per page of course).
What do you think?

Do you mean a next or previous for the full size images? If so that sounds like a cool idea to me too...

Exactly that's what I mean. A Next and Previous for the full size image. and also a First and Last, because if the next/previous can be done, the first/last should be very similar (at programming level I mean)

Just a clarification, probably a non needed clarification but just in case. The prev/next/first/last buttons or links should move to the full image (prev, next, first, last) of the gallery where the memeber is currently "standing" meaning if you came to the image from the what's new gallery, then the next link will send you to the next image of that gallery if instead yo come from an artist gallery then should send you to the next image of the artist gallery and so on, keeping in mind filters etc. this might complicate things a little bit (at programing level) but it sounds to me as the logical way to make it work if it's made at all.

I think this is a good idea indeed, but I think if you click on an artist's gallery from the what's new, there should be a link for the next/previous in the artist's gallery as well. Maybe like VCR controls...

<< < > >>

<< = Previous image in what's new?
< = Previous image in artist's gallery

= Next image in artist's gallery

= Next image in what's new?

Is this idea so bad that no moderator/admin/site coder has commented on it? I mean a simple "we won't do it cause we don't want to" would had been even nice. Of course I'd prefer to see a "We will work on it cause is a very neat idea" but as that oculd be only my opinion, I'm not looking forward to this, but I'd like to see some answer at least. I know it is not that hard to code, cause I know coding my self, but that's not the point. The point is to get some feedback, jeez I'll even take a comment like "We need those browsing options as we need an elephant shaped keyboard" but that would be at least a comment.
