Subject: Help please

I am a newbie. I have Poser 5. Is there any way I can take the ears of the wolf that came with Poser and put them on Mike 3 and make them posable? If this has been addressed before, I can't find it.

First of all ... Mike 3?

Second ... yes, there are a number of ways to go about it.

The simplest is to parent the wolf to Mike's head and then make all the wolf's body parts invisible, save for its ears.

More complex methods involve the grouping tool, third-party modeling software, and/or hacking the wolf's CR2/CRZ so it only uses the ears. bloodsong did something similar with her tail pack freebie.

Another way to do it: Load the wolf, export its left ear as an OBJ file: File>Export>Wavefront OBJ>OK, Then un-x UNIVERSE, x EarL>OK> [Name it EarL] Save> [Accept the defaults for the check box] OK. Then do the same for the right ear. Load Mike 3, import the two ear OBJ's, remove all ticks from the Prop Import Options. Position them on Mike's head, parent each ear to the head. Save each ear seperatly to a props pallet, when asked if you want to save it as a amart prop answer yes. Next time you laod these props they should jump to the correct position on Mikes head. You may need to make a morph to pull Mike's real ears into the head, try using magnets, my MirrorMags pp2 in the free stuff may bhelp here. Or perhaps someone has already made a morph to hide Mike's ears. Travelers Morph World would be a good place to look.

Typo: "amart prop" should read "a smart prop"

Traveler's SuperSet Morphs include a morph to hide Mike's ears. They can be downloaded from the freebies at RunTime DNA.

Little Dragon, Sorry, I meant Mike 2. lesbently, I have found a morph that will pull Mike's ears into the head. Thanks to both of you. I'll try your suggestions.

Fortunatly the ears are seperate body parts on the P4 wolf (I assume it's the same wolf in P5), so you can export them without having to use the Grouping tool :)

Here, I hacked the wolf CR2 for you. Download this text file, rename it "Wolf-Ears.cr2", and put it in your Animals folder. It'll load the ears only.

might it not be easier to use some of Mike 2's excellent morphs and give him wolf ears?

MaPPer ( ) posted Sat, 12 July 2003 at 6:43 AM

it would, but sometimes the ears need to be set higher on the head and to morph them to that point gets rather ugly.

In fact I use the same method here with Vicky 2 having to borrow the ears from the poser wolf and turning them into smart props. Using Little Dragons awesome Tiffany hair I needed to be able to move the ears. of course this pic isn't touched up so you can see where the vicky ears are.
