I've started a simple Captain's Cabin but still looking for decent reference pics, anyone seen any? Looking for the inside of the cabin with various wood-works, trims, ceiling, etc - not the ship's outside. So far I've found nothing on the net and only using some slim shots from CutThroat Island, Swashbuckler, and Treasure Island (ya I know, those are all "movies" but they are all I can find)

Could try under specific ships names? Try HMS Victory for a start. If I think of any others I'll let you know. - Baz

I didn't have much luck either. But you could check under US Navy or H.M.S.Victory, Bounty etc. or U.S.S. Constitution etc. also try google and yahoo's search engines.

Cutty Sark is another one, watch out for Whiskey links though lol!

I'm begining to think it's all a governemt conspiracy, there is no real ships and never have been, their all just Hollywood props with no insides to them! gee, maybe man never landed on the moon either!!?!

I've been in cabins of wooden ships...I've been through the Bounty, the Cutty Sark, the Balaclutha....I know they exist! I guess the problem is you need to live near a large body of water. If you get a chance, I can vouch there's a wooden ship open for tours in San Francisco, St Petersburg (Florida), and Greenwich, and I'd bet there's a few more besides. Not all galleons or even near, but the basic forms should be there. Oh; instead of pictorial reference, look at books. David Macaulay has a cut-away view of an 18th century ship somewhere, and I've seen others, too. I know David is great with the kind of fine details you'd need....

Has someone watched a recent pirate movie?? I was thinking about this while watching previews of Disney's new movie.

Avast ye barbiequers, I keep thinking the omly references to ships cabins will be comic books and movies. This is because I believe that in real life they are less than dramatic. I know they exist and I've been on the Balcutha as well - The H.M.S.Victory is even still commissioned by the Royal Navy(or it was the last I heard). It seems thouugh, that a ship that was 24 feet wide or so that shared a pilot's cabin and a captain's cabin below the steering deck, could not have been very big or very exciting to be in. You might end up having to fake it, and give it your interpretation - might be more interesting than the real thing. Pieces of eight and all that, - TJ

Just saw Pirates of the Caribbean last night. Pretty awsome effects, and a bit more scenes of the inside cabins too. But it'll be a while before the DVD come out to snag stills. Oh well, at least my cabin will be differnt somewhat!

igohigh, If you can get an outside view looking at the stern "windows" you might get the best chance to do that part somewhat realistically, but then again your imagination will most likely come up with the best scene in the long run. You might, at this point sketch it out on paper as well to see what you come up with that way too. best of luck with it, - TJ

I was thinking of the square windows as being the back of the ship (something like the H.M.S.Bounty but not with so many) as the scene I want is 2 pirates standing at a desk looking/arguing over a treasure map (using Ranapd's WolfPack for Mike and Traveler's Swashbuckler for Vicky) I might even work in Ranapd's WolfPack for Vicky on this one, but that's another part of the overall story. Should be interesting - sorry I couldn't find anything to help, but you might investigate further by trying to get plans for some of those old ships. Usually, If you can find reference to a particular ship, the person who built it is listed somewhere in the reference.
