Subject: Switching Geometry tool - now you can make switching geometry figures in a snap

Here's a screen shot of the new switching geometry tool I'm adding in the 1.2 update for EasyPose Underground. With just a couple of clicks, you can add a whole directory full of alternative meshes at once, to quickly and easily make those switching geometry figures popularised by Anton's "Changing" line of products. I used this tool to set up the Dystopia figures. Would you care to hazard a guess as to how many times I had to press a button on the form above in order to add nine alternative meshes to each of the 36 body parts in the largest Dystopia figure? I'll give a copy of one of my original figures to the first person to give the correct answer. The update is currently being attacked by my ravenous beta testers who are, as I write this, trying to find weaknesses in my handiwork (good luck to ya, guys! heh heh). Once beta testing is complete, I'll be shipping out the update to all current owners of EasyPose Underground. I haven't decided yet whether to increase the price. If I do, it will go from the current price of $40 to $45. Existing owners get the update free, so if you've been thinking about it, now might be a good time to buy. On the other hand, I also plan to release a save-disabled demo version shortly after the update comes out, so you might want to wait and take a look at that. Don't forget, EasyPose Underground already has a huge list of features that will be of benefit to almost any figure maker. Even the simple features like the ability to rename a bunch of dials at once have proven very popular with users, though the utility's status as the best EasyPose tool and the best ERC tool on the market is undoubtedly it's most popular feature.

A minor feature of the update is a humble "step" box in the ERC relationships frame. Using this box makes setting up ERC controled finger, fan or tail feather spreading much faster and easier. The step value is added to each successive slave control ratio to produce an even spread of control ratios across all of the slave body parts. I don't think he knows it, but Noggin was the inspiration for this one. All of those spreading tail feathers he puts in his models made me think we needed a feature like this. Thanks, Noggin!

And don't forget - the first person to correctly answer the question in my first message wins one of my original figures. Only one guess for each person, please.

This looks to be a brilliant addon Ajax!

x2000 ( ) posted Mon, 14 July 2003 at 7:23 AM

9x36=324 sounds too easy, so I'll go the other way and say just once.;)

Btw, I was already thinking about buying EasyPose Underground as soon as I can get the money, but this clinched it!

Wow Ajax that looks great_ and boyz'o'boyz that 'step' dial ratio thingy sounds great_it'll save me a lot of work certainly! And the geometry shifting is something I've hankered after learning. Looking forward to the upgrade!

Are you going to also update the EasyPose Wizard to include the switching geometry?

guess: 1

Ajax ( ) posted Mon, 14 July 2003 at 7:01 PM

Thanks everybody. I guess I didn't ask a hard enough question. The very first guess was right and x2000 is the winner, I did indeed only have to press a button on the form once to add 9 meshes to each one of 36 body parts. It was the big button on the top right. Congrats x2000! MachineClaw was also correct, but since x2000 got it first, he gets the prize. Thanks everybody for playing. And thanks also for the nice comments. lundon_Don, At this stage, I don't plan to add switching geometry to the Wizard, no. The main reason Underground costs twice as much as the Wizard is that it does more. This update is part of that. I do plan a small feature expansion for the Wizard, but I couldn't tell you when. When Underground came out, I had a one month period where people could upgrade from the Wizard for $21. I had to do a special deal with the store to do that. I might be able to convince them to do that again if there's enough interest. Caly, I'd love to be able to offer Underground in Mac version, but I can't. I know nothing about Macs or how to program for them. The only thing I could do is to find a Mac programmer to port the code across for me, but it would be difficult for me to find the right person and I'd be very uncomfortable not being able to test the Mac version myself and having to rely on other people's assessment of whether it worked properly. So I don't think there will ever be a Mac version I'm afraid :-(
