I'm not too worried - Corel is deader then Bryce is and I have a feeling that Bryce will at some point be bought by someone like Pandromeda or Eovia and the Mac version restored. The irony here is that most of Bryce's PC code is ported Mac code - Corel isn't going to due much of anything without crossplatform programmers. And I'm not too sure that I'd want (on any platform) a Bryce version that didn't have ex-chief programmer Brain Wagner - who is no longer employed by Corel. The problem I have with Vue is that there is no guarantee that E-on won't drop the Mac as well (they've followed Bryce in just about everything, so why not this?). For me I'm probably going to save my pennies and try to get something like Maya - especially since it now includes the $3000 Mental Ray renderer for free! Best; Dan
"most of Bryce's PC code is ported Mac code" Yeah, because it's designed for the mac. It's not really that ironic... They rarely completely code two versions of the program. And why everyone is getting so worked up over this is beyond me. What Corel most likely means is that it will be designing the program towards a PC instead of towards a mac. There will still probably be a Mac release, except it will be mainly ported pc code.. If there are so many of us non Mac-ers using it now, why are mac users getting so worked up over having to use a PC port?
Hi Ornlu; According to everything I've seen from Corel, there is not going to be any more work done on the Mac version at all. As far as I know, all of the Mac programmers have been let go or have been reassigned. I think that's is a pretty good indication of their intentions! And I've never been upset over a good PC to Mac port :-) Ever since Bryce 3 the Mac version has been largely a PC port and I've never complained. What upsets me is that Bryce is eventually going to be sold and this diminishes the value of the brand to a cross-platform company and what I meant by irony is that the cross-platform companies are the ones most likely to be interested - partially for the Mac user base, but also because so much of the core code is ported Mac - I can't see any PC only company being interested in dealing with that. And it also sending Mac users to Vue, Bryce's biggest competitor. I do very much care about what happens to Bryce and truly think that this is a bad move for it's long term prospects. Best; Dan
Personally, I don't like corel, but that's just me. I'd be perfectly happy with it being sold to AliasWavefront or Maxon. I think that those two companies could make it much better by applying the tried and true rendering engines that they use in their current products without sacrificing the ease of use that bryce offers.
If they did that and made more Plant life for Bryce "AND" being able to import Poser animations with Textures and all(Not the Lights I cant stand Posers and I love Bryce's Lighting Lab just simply SUPERB)Then I would have to say that then I would definitely stay with Bryce...As it stands now I will always use Bryce for stills and Nature animations I am going to VUE for the Animation aspect of it I will definetly do stills and such with VUE but Bryce is just to much FUN to use...And Being able to Export Bryce's Land formations that you Create and importing into Major 3D software like Maya and Max....
"There will still probably be a Mac release, except it will be mainly ported pc code.. " I recently attempted to buy Bryce5 from Corel and was told that all copies of Bryce5 are now Windows only and they couldn't supply a Mac version, what hope is there for Bryce6 for Mac? Corel have stated quite clearly that they are dropping Bryce for Mac :o(
Still gonna use Bryce for while yet. Not really keen about learning another 3d app from the beginning again. Since Bryce has not yet been taken out back and "retired", there is still hope. Lots of things could happen before now and end of the year. Would rather render on the mac because I can leave it alone for 5 days, can't do that with pc because of email, etc.

Since Corel announced that they were ceasing the development of the Mac version of Bryce I have decided it would be a good idea to switch all my rendering to Carrara so as not to be left out in the cold.
Carrara has always simply been my modeller because I love texturing & rendering in Bryce, but I have to be honest, I wish I had switched to Carrara years ago.
The renderer, lighting & the ability I have to adjust my models throughout the compositing process is amazing. They have a terrain room that is similar to Bryce, environmental controls & It also supports the importing of Bryce lanscapes (if you miss your Bryce skys, they can be used as backdrops too).
Bryce 5 for Mac will still be very useful for many years to come & I am no longer angry at Corel (believe me I was furious) because this was the incentive I needed to move on. A change is as good as a rest I suppose.
My question is,
What other 3D software are Mac users planning on switching to, now our beloved Bryce is becoming defunct?

Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing?
