I may have missed a posting, but I,ve never seen anyone mention it.The full Strata 3d modelling software is available for free to download from their site. Be warned though its a 22Meg download.

You can get the CD and the manual for ~$37 (incld S&H) from buy.com. The program does not import OBJ files. Why did the programers shoot themselves in the foot on this?

The manual comes in PDF format with the download,as well as a copy of the latest Acrobat reader if you need it.It,s odd but about 2yrs ago it was a case of Strata Studio Plus for the Mac only vrs 3d Max for the Pc only. They were both very similar programmes at the time and yet neither has bothered with OBJ files.I know you can get the Habware plug in for Max.I wonder if anyone knows of anything similar for the Pc version of Strata.

If you are in the UK or you are near a Barnes and Noble in the US this software is available free on the Computer Arts cover disc. Mind you before you rush out to download it or pay for it... it really is like a cutdown version of RDS5.0 infact it behaves pretty much the same and the interface isnt too different. You'd be better off backordering a copy of Computer Arts or PCformat or a similar magazine and using TS3SE or buying Cinema Go for the little it would cost. VID

I've been using Strata for years and I love it (Mac) Few things tho: My information tells me that you do not get all the best renderers with the free d'load. The "official" Pro version is supposed to be out later in the summer and will contain all the renderers and all the CD add ons that have been published in the past two years. (not too expen$ive according to my sources) Strata is VERY interested in supporting .OBJ but is still in the process of getting its feet underneath itself (again) so no .OBJ support is forthcoming. The above statement also hold true for Poser figs. Truth be told with the exception of Poser I have never had any trouble importing from any of a variety of sources. I've been suggesting to them strongly that they should get in contact with Curious Labs. In many respedcts they both are at the same point in their respective businesses. For that matter maybe Curious Labs should contact them. But now I'm rambling I have rarely met a group of people more open to helping the aspiring add-on writer. Going to 3D.com (the user site for Strata et al) you will find there are many resources that can be called upon. I'd love to see .OBJ and so would they. Anybody up for it?
