Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
Ah yes, I can see it now. Poser 5 doing what Bill Gates and Windows couldn't - kill the Mac platform forever. I am sure you have noticed the startling "coincidences": Poser 5 comes out and: 1. US war vs. Iraq 2. Katherine Hepburn dies 3. Michael Moore wins an ill-deserved Oscar(tm) 4. Madonna's album tanks 5. Matrix sequel is boring ... I could go on, but I may curse myself. It is EVIL, I tell you. EVIL!!!!! Good luck guys...
..and what about the animation export plugin for C4DXL lightwave in OSX or should i talk to "riess studio" about that
10.3 (Panther!) will be 64bit native on the G5s... then there's dual processor comps... If Poser 5 could only USE all that power well it would be really good.

"10.3 is announced to ship by the end of the year - you don't want to wait that long for Poser 5, do you? " ---------------------------------------------------------------------- We are at 10.2.6 what the minimum version of OSX needed to run poser5 that is my question
G4 500? No wonder FireFly was slow...who was demoing it there, anyway? A CL employee? Name? BTW, Panther is not a 64bit OS. It sets up the necessary environment for 64bit applications, but the OS itself is mostly 32bit. I won't go into details, as this has been beaten to death on almost every Mac site.
..and are making hosting plugins for C4D and Lightwave on OSX or has that area been surrendered to Reiss studio???
Doesn't matter if it was a G4 500. A great deal of the people in these forums with super PCs have all said that the Firefly renderer is slow. Sometimes that is the price one pays.

No, He wasn't a CL employee, although he was familiar with the CL personnel. We spoke of Kupa and his hand on involvment at the boards here. He's a graphic artist based here in NY. He was really demoing Painter. But, later in the day he opened up Poser 5. He gave me samples of his work 'M Studios'. His name isn't on the card. I'll ask if he wants his name posted here if he's there. He wasn't at Macworld today. But, I'll check over there again tomorrow. BTW just behind him Renderocity had a booth there as well. They gave me a free Renderocity DVD (since I mentioned I'm a member here). And a slick 'Rocity T shirt which I sported at the Javits center this afternoon.
A great deal of the people in these forums with super PCs have all said that the Firefly renderer is slow. They should have read my web page on how to make FireFly fast...the thing is that even in draft settings, the defaults are not set for full speed. A few minor tweaks and it is significantly faster.
Gwiz, How did the interface and all the tools seem on OSX? Was it really slow or decent? I have a Dual G4-450 and am hoping I will be able to run P5 without a problem. I want a G5 but am going to wait until they make a Hardware revision as there always seems to be some glitches on Apple's first hardware designs. Regards, Paul
The main interface looks pretty much the same as P4, but more organized. Tabs above the preview window give easy access to the Face room, Cloth room, Hair room etc. The Libraries are also better organized as well. In particular a seperate folder in the pose section for MAT files. The render options window is pretty different, but I was prepared for that haveing seen screen shots here from the PC users. This is where you select your options for useing the Firefly rendering, (It renders in blocks, or 'chunks' from top to bottom) or the original rendering engine (which still renders from the bottom up), as well as the Depth of field settings. It looks like it'll run fine on your machine. But, I only saw a simple example rendering a default Judy model with a custom skin texture he made himself useing a digital picture he'd taken of his father. (Pretty slick the way you can match up the texture over the model). Some hair he made on the spot in the hair room, (naturally, the more detailed the hair...the longer the render). No background or additinal props. Since there were only 2 of us watching, he took the time to render both useing firefly (which took maybe 15 minutes? Could've been longer...but we were talking), then the regular engine which was fine, just a little less detail & faster. In addition, the bump map was created and applied automatically by poser during rendering. One less step we need to make compared to P4.
It's unlikely the guy was running Poser 5 on Panther - the current 10.3 betas are still too buggy for something as fragile as Poser. P.S. wolf359: it's Reiss Studios that does the Poser plug-ins. I might have called them, but you don't do business in California on Fridays or Mondays, because all you get is go-fers.

"it's Reiss Studios that does the Poser plug-ins. I might have called them, but you don't do business in California on Fridays or Mondays, because all you get is go-fers." heeeeey, is that true? I thought we weren't allowed to take any days off until all the plugins were done. :) -JJosh, Nope... no time off! I had one boss that yelped when I told him that the computer was coming off the table on Christmas Day because I was having my annual Open House. :sheesh: Meanwhile these folks who get 4 weeks of vacation a year and every weekend off make snide remarks about us. :shake head: If there's "no rest for the wicked", we must have really partied down in some past life! The attached link has a story about Poser5 for Mac. It is set to ship before September. Here is hoping that it runs better then the initial PC version release... Regards, Paul
