THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce Battle????

Any of you ever come across the concept of artistic battles?? You pass pictures back and forth slowly evolving them (take a look at a photoshop battle I've had under projects->battles at the other end of the link). I was wondering if we could do a similar thing with bryce, say each person can add or change 5 items in each pass, see how an image developes. (may end up for those with broadband ony when the file gets large though). Anyone interested????? IM me if you are. (BTW although I'm posting this, I'm off on holiday for a week, so I'll have to catch up when I get back :-)) Sun, Surf, Sand......

well ive never heard of it but im definitely interested - could be a good way to learn some new tricks - anyone else? Stash ;0)

MadDog31 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 10:13 AM

I've heard it done before, and it seems to be a very cool idea...the one I saw is where someone added to it, not changed anything though. Everyone got to add their 'signature touch' to the picture, where everyone put something in that is their specialty of sorts. Yes, we ALL have a Bryce specialty or two, just gotta find 'em. I think it would be a cool little project. Maybe what we could do is download and upload the Bryce file to a central location for easier access. Any ideas? I'd be willing to try it out if others are. MD

It was done here several months ago. The one that was going on then apparently has sort of died out. Not sure why. AS would know more about it and I think Collette. Can't remember any other names that participated. If you search for "toybox" I think you'll find the threads about it. The subject was a toybox in a child's room. Now that I know more about Bryce, I'd love to do something like this. If anyone's interested in getting another one started, I'd be glad to be involved.

Right - I have my own webspace and will quite happily build the asp pages to upload the files to. Im away over the weekend but im taking my laptop so ill work on the asp just in case someone wants to do it - IM/email me and ill get back to you all on monday Im definitely interested in having a go Stash ;0)

i'll take you on :)

Ang25 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 12:04 PM

I like the idea of people adding their own personal touches to an scene. Some people could add a model and someone else could texture it etc. someone else add the lighting. Just ideas. Don't know what I could contribute but I wouldn't mind trying something. Sounds like fun.

antevark ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 12:57 PM

Wow, Stash, that's very generous of you, thanks! I don't suppose it would be possible to make an entry page, too? So that we can sign up our 'osity names and what we consider ourselves best at(modeling, texturing, lighting, etc.)? That would be great!

MadDog31 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 1:20 PM

Antevark...great suggestions. I like the idea of us listing what we'll do so that we can better judge WHAT to do in the picture. I know I'd sign up for texturing, my modeling isn't at a peak point yet and lighting...I just haven't had the desire to really toy with that yet. I'd like to see how this turns out. MD

MadDog31 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 1:24 PM

Ang25, I think you do well with the foliage in pictures...your trees and weeds often turn out really nice...that could be something you could focus on if this image comes about. MD

catlin_mc ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 1:28 PM

We also had a kind of similar contest a while back where everyone involved wrote in a description of what to do and we all made our own images. I think that one was started by Erlik. I would be interested in doing something with this so add me to the list. Catlin

MadDog31 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 1:51 PM

One way we can do this is having the main file ready, but we can add what we want in a seperate Bryce scene file and then just merge the files and adjust the placement accordingly, that way the other placements don't get messed up. Plus it can spead up workflow. Anybody agree/disagree? MD PS...of course if you're going to be a texturer, you'd only work w/ the scene file itself.

MadDog31 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 1:52 PM

Spead = speed...jesus I've lost it. MD

Ang25 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 2:19 PM

OR Spead = spread lol, and thanks MD for suggesting I do something well. :-D

RodsArt ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 2:23 PM

Yes it was done here before. I hosted some of the images and files. Seems as if it was 9 months ago. Then I reposted the finished products just a few months back. If you're interested I'll dig them up, I probably burned them to archive CD's. I believe there were approx 10 participants for PC and 5 or 6 for Mac. Yes it was called Toybox you can search bryce forum archives for "toy box" or "Group Project" to see what the results were.

ICM did you ever get the file back from DarkGinger? I think they were the last person to have the pc or mac version and then it stopped. Catlin

MadDog31 ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 2:47 PM

Ang...no problem. I checked out your gallery and was pretty impressed with the trees and weeds you did...especially the placement. So if I were to suggest at least one thing, it would definitely be that. :) MD

RodsArt ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 2:47 PM

No, never did.

i'd join! i like modelling. i aint good at it though...

mloates ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 6:28 PM

Don't know what I'd be best at, but I'd love to be involved. As long as Ornlu doesn't fill up the scene with eight million metaballs and lights...

squeeka ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 6:55 PM

I'd like to be involved too :) Just don't know what I'm good at really, definitely not modeling thoughshudders at the thought of showing anyone any modeling she's done This sounds like a fun idea....

bknoh ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 7:30 PM

I would love to take part. My skills are on the low side, but I could do some modeling. Diane

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 7:34 PM

Liked the Toybox project. Have the link to the site as a favorite, let me know if you want it. Would like to the join this project too. This time, I will just join the mac side. Most of my pictures are done on a mac anyway. Not sure if I have a specialty though. Can drop by my gallery and suggest a specialty.

antevark ( ) posted Sun, 20 July 2003 at 7:39 PM

Texturing. Definitly texturing.

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 12:34 PM

Is the modeling going to be restricted to Bryce modeling?

antevark ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 4:05 PM

I dunno, I say yes, but others might disagree.

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:00 PM

I would disagree. So models you make yourself are not allowed?

antevark ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 6:01 PM

It's up to the majority of people.

burgi ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 4:29 AM

the majority seem to say yes. John

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 6:25 AM

Yes to what? Models you make yourself using another app are or are not allowed?

antevark ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 4:33 PM

I prefer modeling only in Bryce because it's more of a challenge. I'm guessing that the majority of people would want to be allowed to model in Wings. I think that these should only be what we've modeled. No downloading.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 5:08 PM

Is this a Bryce only or not? It's a simple question and a less criptic answer would be appreciated, and since Gog CA1 suggested this in the first place perhaps he/she should be the one to answer. If there are going to be too many restrictions on what we can do then I don't think I'll bother. I m just a bit fed up of being told what to do, it's not a monthly challenge and each person has their own kind of creativity, so if you want a piece of work from each of us it should not be restrictive. Catlin (my 0.02p)

antevark ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 5:52 PM

Hey, I'm just sayin' what I think the most people will want! Let's make this any program, and I'll just stick to Bryce

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 6:50 PM

OK! 8)

Gog ( ) posted Mon, 28 July 2003 at 3:56 AM

Howdy folks, I'm back after my week of rain and wind in cornwall. My view on the idea is use whatever you like as long as everything you do is your own creation and the file you pass on is Bryce. The idea is to stimulate art not smother it. Once life has settled down (give me a week to recover from my holiday :-) ) I'll get something started unless stash wants to post a URL to his asp driven site....

Here's my take on it: Being the Bryce Forum and all Probably all Bryce would be best. Kixum on Carrara Forum had and occasionally still has I think "15 minute challenges" or something like that. Something simple that would take less than a day to do. He'd put an object up and try to get everyone to duplicate it as best they could. As a variation on that, whoever figures out how to do it correctly and posts their own image and explaination first, could either expand on it or start a new challenge.

An example - using 4 terrains make the glass as pictured above. (Just an example but you get the idea.) That way if someone drops out you all can keep going. Of course Agent Smith and/or Clay would need to be involved or approve, I would think. - TJ

SevenOfEleven ( ) posted Tue, 29 July 2003 at 6:23 AM

Here we go again Sighs. Personally think that using your own models and importing them into Bryce is also a Bryce function. Once its loaded into Bryce and textured and fussed with its a Bryce item, not Carrera or LW or Max.

Exactly Seven!
