Subject: Questions about posting images for stories other than your own:

Hello, 1.) I'm making an image about a book which impressed me greatly in my youth (and still does!). Would this posting here be allowed since I'm not the writer? 2.) The possible crossworkings between writers and graphic artists here at Renderosity is one aspect which fascinates me most. But I'm not sure if this would be wished and allowed from the authors. What do you think? Thank you

If you are creating an image from a book that inspired you (not posting illustrations from the book nor portions of the book), I personally think that would be fine. You'll find throughout the galleries and history, graphics that have been inspired by literary works (the Bible being a notable example, as are graphics based on Shakespearean plays or Dickens's novels). Heinlein has been the inspiration for a great many science fiction graphics and you will often see his novels references as such. As to your other question, if the graphic artist has agreed to cooperatively work with the writer, there is no problem. The only time you'd get into trouble is if you took a graphic from the gallery and then posted it with your words without the artist giving permission or without the artist having knowledge of this use of their artwork. Others may have different viewpoints. That's mine for this evening. :)

  1. No problem so long as you make it clear that it is your interpretation, not the official version, and give full credit to the original writer. You can also write stories about images you see. 2) Ask the individual writers. Some will be honored. Some might be a little hestitant because they have their own ideas as to how their characters, world, etc. should look. Cheers!

Thank you, of course I would ask the artist before I would try my hands on his work. I just wanted to stick my finger in the air how you think generally about this idea...

Well the wind blows kindly from my direction, if any of my writings ever interest you - or any other graphic artist for that matter. Collaboration is infinitely more attractive [to me] than competition.
