Subject: universal texture converter plugin module status????

MachineClaw ( ) posted Fri, 18 July 2003 at 7:48 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 2:17 PM

I'm really thinking of buying universal texture converter to get some of my V2 textures on V3. that being said, what is the status on other conversion options? Id rather not shell out 30 bucks only to be able to convert V2<->V3. i will if i must, but is there going to be more support? is there a web page with a email i can ask?? i heard about beta, and wonder what that status is also. i have some great steph textures and mike textures I'd like to throw onto V3. ugh, long winded for a simple question. sorry. any information would be greatly appricated.

Here's the link to the 3D Universe website. THere's a forum all about the Universal Texture Creator. Not much there yet.

hummmmm. most of the forums are locked. dead link for the unversal texture converter product. interesting.

Just checked and all the forums are up now, including the UTC threads. I did find this on the from page, might be a partial explaination? ----------- 7/July/2003 We are finally back online, and will be addressing any outstanding queries as soon as possible. We will also be getting the newsletter up and running again in the next few days. Thanks for all your patience! ---------

Oh, I see what you mean now, they are all "Locked". Guess the above statment may have something to do with it...just a guess.

elgyfu ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 5:13 AM

I must admit that I thought it would convert Vicky to Steph or Mike to V3 as well. It is a great prog but Universal is not quite the right name yet, is it?

FyreSpiryt ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 8:00 AM

Be patient, give them time. These are complex algorithms and accuracy is a must.

SothArtist ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 8:09 AM

I don't know about the update, but I know the program works like a dream :)

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 8:15 AM

The poor dears are probably cowering gibbering in a corner; they know that whichever conversion they add next they will be ripped to shreds by the majority who wanted some other pairing.

JetM ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 10:26 AM

Funny, when I put up the link, I checked the site to make sure I had it right. I went into the forums. You do have to create a user ID and such to get into the forums, though. If you hadn't done that, that's probably why they were locked. It is a great program and I'd already asked about the Mike/Steph to V3. He says it's part of the plan.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 1:53 PM

well i did create a login and still get locked threads in those forums, dunno. nuttin but rave reviews on the v2<->V3 conversion which i need. so i guess if i buy it and get nutin else out of it i would have gotten my moneies use just in that. thanks, i thought maybe someone had heard some recent news on the newer plugins.

Stormrage ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 2:53 PM

I wish i could use it. But all i get is an error when i try to load something

Connatic ( ) posted Sat, 19 July 2003 at 9:38 PM

It works fine for me.

Hi guys, Yep I'm one of the guys "cowering gibbering in a corner" :-) Actually we've been waiting on something before continuing to bring out plugins - I was investigating an in-house application to create these plugins easier. We have started development on a Stephanie/Mike 1&2 plugin which will probably be released to co-incide with the release of Michael 3. The forums that are currently locked are our beta-testing forums which are available only to the beta testing team members. I hope this answers all your questions... cheers, Steve

How about the distaff kids in Poserland, Steve? Any chance for them in the future...(You knew I was gonna ask, didn't you)?

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:20 PM

Dale, We have a fairly long list of plugins we are planning on making starting with the more popular ones (Steph/mike,posette,dork,etc.). We will then investigate the less popular ones - its not worth us spending 30 hours developing a plugin that 5 people are interested in, so we'll have a poll running on our site toe judge the interest for each character. cheers, Steve

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:36 PM

Well, since I've completely given up on V3 and won't be purchasing Mike 3 if he uses that @%#$^%^ injection system, I'd love to see a way to recoup some of my losses and convert the V3 textures for use with vicky, Steph and Mike. At least that way I wouldn't have thrown ALL my money down the toilet.

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 10:40 PM

I've completely given up on V3 Oh - why have you given up on V3 - I find the injection system to be far better than working with a 100Mb figure all the time... cheers, Steve

Connatic ( ) posted Mon, 21 July 2003 at 11:11 PM

Indeed, V3 is far easier to use. I can get the filesize down to 13mb for my heavily customised characters. Kate, please do not give up on V3. She is a fantastic figure. Once you understand how to use the INJ poses, everything is very streamlined and fast compared to earlier versions.

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 2:30 AM

V3 locks up my computer everytime I try to render her. I'm just tired of hitting the on/off switch on my power strip and sitting through the stupid scan disk when I try to use her. A 1.2gb processor, 512MB Ram and 120 GB hdd should be more than adequate, but it evidently isn't. And I just do not like the injection system. Too much time spent searching for morphs instead of actually posing and rendering. No thank you. Way more trouble than she's worth.

FyreSpiryt ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 6:31 AM

Your hardware sounds fine; that's more than I have. What version of Poser and what OS? Maybe the problem is elsewhere. (Well, the PROBLEM is that, IMHO, Poser is a poorly-programmed POS, but maybe we can find you a work-around.)

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 11:08 AM

Win 98 ProPack Sr3 The primary problem with V3 (aside from the inability to render thing) is that I just do not like the injection system. Yes, I know how to use it. That doesn't mean I WANT to use it. I know how to use the lawnmower, too, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't rather hire someone to do my yardwork. I just don't LIKE V3 at all. She sucks all the FUN out of poser for me.

gildedgecko ( ) posted Tue, 22 July 2003 at 11:41 AM

I'm not a V3 fan either. I don't like the injection system. On V2, I know where the morphs are and what they do, I can whip out a complete custom character in fifteen minutes. With V3, it takes that long to find the exact lip morph I need. But...I keep practicing with V3, hoping that experience will endear her to me. It's been what, 10 months since she was released? I'm no more enthusiastic about her now than I was six months ago.

raven ( ) posted Thu, 24 July 2003 at 9:32 AM

If you want V2 textures on V3, why don't you just use the free uvs file to make a V2 texture wearing V3? Then when the other converter modules get released, get it then.
