After 5 years of using poser, my patience with the color picker has finally run out. I'm attempting to add matched groups of colors to figures with 20+ materials and getting ready to kick poser around the room with a size 10 boot. Q - Why does the picker always add the custom color to the FIRST box - the one I ALREADY have a custom color in? Q - Why won't the dratted thing save my custom colors from sessiuon to session? Q - Has anyone found a rational way of adding more than 1 custom color without actually typing in the RGB values? Q - (unimportant) Why is it that no matter WHAT color you pick, it seems to be based on the pink box in top left corner. LOL. Argh! mac

If you choose another box other than the first one, then choose a color on the right side, clicking will put the color in the box you selected. At least it's happened for me a few times. It doesn't save session to session because the Poser programmers didn't program for it. :-)

Yep, pick the box first. Actually Poser is not guilty, at least not Poser 4, it uses the standard Windows colour picker, so blaime Bill. I have a theory that if I could find the name of the dll with the colour picker in it, I could just replace it with somting more usefull, but thats just a theory.

Well, Bill can't be blamed for not making the user's settings persistent. That's the program's responsibility. I'll let him off the hook for that. But I don't understand why the color picker hasn't been updated since win3.x. That's a travesty. :(

Well, I know if I choose a box other than the 1st one, it'll hold my color, but that's not the problem. If I want to add 7 or 8 different colors to 20 materials, I have to use different boxes for every one. The problem is that when I start with one color, then modify it, I can't save the modification as a custom color because it overwrites the color I chose it from. So I have to start from a blank box, type in the RGB values of the color I want to start from, then modify it. It's a pitiful system when you think of some of the things computers are capable of. mac

With the first custom colour box selected use your right arrow key to move the focus to the next box. Now when you click "Add to Custom" the colour will be stored there, preserving your first box.

LOL Bill! Wowsers, Phil! Gotta write that trick down. If I try it then I'll remember it but Poser opens so slow the t-storm will arrive first. This gets a hug from me! Wonder what mac will give ya. ;-)

Ah, phil.... you're a genius! An absolute genius! I'd give you a big smooch but I doubt you'd want it from me. The next shoot I do, I'll get the model to send you one. Now, why didn't I try that? Since I always use the keyboard in preference to the mouse, I should have seen that one. I did discover that you can add the same color to every box by continually pressing 'enter'. Wow...bet it is! I kid you not, I was following the local doppler, and the storm simply vanished from radar about 8 miles from here. Poof. Today will be different though. BTW, I have an excuse because I'm a mouser. Never think to use the keyboard if I can avoid it. LOL

Mac gives you a choice of 6 or 8 color pickers. The usual ones on the Mac.

maclean: The reason that the color picker "selects" the pink color is because it can't match your color with a preset. Try changing your color to blue or red or white or black. Then, close and re-open the color picker. You should see that your color is now "selected" in the colored squares. Doozy: That's the default color-picker for the Mac. Windows users get ONE choice. Again, it comes down to the laziness of the Poser programmers. Every other professional program (from Photoshop to Lightwave) has the ability to choose from different color pickers. Poser has ONE choice: the default Windows Color Picker. Was this issue addressed in Poser 5? Of course not. Why would you think it would be?

'You PC-users only get ONE color picker?' Umm.... not strictly true. In Photoshop I have a choice of... well, I never stopped to count them, but a LOT of pickers. Poser, however, is a different kettle of horses of another color (as usual). You get the magnanimous choice of one whole picker all to yourself! Wow! Still, even if I'm of those 'poor, poor people', I manage. Here's a window with matching color scheme made in minutes using Phil's tip. mac
