Well here it is...C&Cs welcome...I'll be uploading this to the Challenge Page soon.

The .Mats will also be on my D/ls age on my website.
Thanks to everyone who commented on my WIPs and gave me so much help and support, not to mention all the great links to Egyptian interest sites.

I went for a more Egyptian look than I intended, but I got some great stuff from G.Liebsch's site. Loads of wall paintings and reliefs, and Egyptian objs.

This is my take on the movie 'The 5th Element' starring Bruce Willis. The 5 .mats are (obviously) set on the stone plinths in the centre of the room. I didn't use them elsewhere in the pic. This took about 6.5 hours at 'Super' setting.

The 'glyphs at the bottom reads, 'The Bryster' just in case you hadn't realised.
Zhann: To be honest I learnt more about the Terrain Editor than I did about DTE. I got to carve out the buttresses that support the ceiling with my new graphics tablet (gets all big-headed)But, I did learn more about how DTE works in conjunction with the Materials Editor. For instance, you can view pics of the DTE default presets in the DTE if you can find the right button! This wasn't a difficult as I first thought, and I'll bet others think the same way too.
This was an interesting challenge and probably the most challenging yet. Thank you!

Hope you like the pic...

The mats look good, the room is well done. The ambiance of the shadows is intriguing. Nice image!

And here are the 'mats..... # 1 is 'Electricity, looks great with bolts of lightning. # 2 Water, should look good in applied to deep water as it has some transparency. # 3 a VOLUME mat. I was looking for soft white clouds and a blue sky, but ended up with Clouds of Steam instead. # 4 Black Fire. This started out as a simple fire texture but it went crazy in DTE. When I finally got it sorted I found a kind of 'plasma'. # 5 The ground plane 'Muddy Shallows'...This is the kind of look you get on some mud beaches after the tide's gone out. I'm really chuffed with this one. These will be uploaded to my website as well as here in the forum. Regards The Bryster

Excellent! I like the way the whole room has come together and those mats are great. The floor is still a bit dirty, oh well guess I don't sweep so well. :-D Angela

Yes, the room is really good. And I like a lot the mats too.

Sambucus ( ) posted Sun, 27 July 2003 at 9:14 AM

I had this and traced it to a texture and solved the problem by using another but I wish I had realised it was the filename length that was causing it. We live and learn.

This is excellent! Just one thing bugs me, the aspect ratio of the two figures in the center rear. They are stretched vertically. Could you size the figures upward from the bottom until the aspect ratio is closer to normal? If not, great entry anyway, Bryster. Sorry to nitpick, but you did title this thread "Challenge Final?", which looks like you're still open for suggestions due to that question mark. :^)

Looks fantastic. I love the Egyptians on the back wall.

Ornlu ( ) posted Sun, 27 July 2003 at 10:17 AM

Same thing bugs me as Tjohn. And it looks like they are cut off by the floor perhaps? Only other suggestion I'd give is to darken the room a bit. That and the fact that you have a mainly egyptian design, and yet, red clay bricks on the floor. Now, there is no red clay in the regions that this type of tomb would be located. Perhaps a bit too modern as well? Sorry, just being picky, great image I like the mats.

Elsina ( ) posted Sun, 27 July 2003 at 10:37 AM

I really like the room and the mats are great, but agree with Ornlu, the floorbricks don't fit in.

A great entry Bryster and your mats are spot on. I like the room and I don't care if the floor brick aren't quite right, it's an imaginery place after all. Catlin 8)

Thanks for the input, everyone. If I have time I'll do something about the floor and the Egyptians on the doors at the back. We could argue all night about the providence of the architecture, the movie did have Moorish or Moroccan overtones IMO. As usual, my render has taken on a life of its own and wants to be Egyptian - so be it.... Thanks once again The Bryster

The floor is fine, mosaics were very prevalent in Greek and Roman buildings in ancient times, and the Egyptains were world class brick layers, you did a great job!

OK! Here's the final. I changed the floor and the figures on the doors. I've also changed the lighting to give better shadows IMO...so it's up to you guys. What do you think? The one at the top of this page or this one? I'm torn between the two. Also, this one was rendered at 'premium' on my son's 2.4ghz super-dooper pc, whereas the first was done on my old slow 455mgz at 'super'. The .mats are available for d/l on my website. Enjoy!

I would go for the second one! The floor is better and the colors are warmer. Great job!
