THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: General failure, unexpected error -- Importance of filenames

I've discovered this while working on the HDRI image, and I want to know if anyone else has encountered this same problem. I've set a basic sphere to try the various effects. Found an image on the net, applied to the sphere. When I tried to save, bang! "General failure, an unexpected error has occurred." After having banged my head on this for hourse, I realized that the only thing could be the filename. So I used PS to convert the image. Result: filename: 2001-07-29-Whidby-Island-House-Interior.jpg -- error filename: HouseInterior.jpg -- ok Same identical image, only with the name changed. Does Bryce have problems in handling long filenames? I didn't know that, and thought that maybe could be useful to others. Stefano

Ouch... "hourse" is not a strange animal, but "hours" :) sorry

Yep, I've heard of this. Long filenames with more than 32 characters including the period and extension will cause Bryce to crash when you try to save. Renaming should fix it. Arleen

There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.

Thanks Arleen, I didn't know it. I figured it out at my expenses, LOL :) S.

I only found out about this myself. Someone wrote in about it a few days ago, can't remember who though. Thankfully I haven't had the problem myself but I am aware now and I'm not going to let it happen. Stefano you should make a model of this new animal, the hourse, it could be very entertaining. 8) Catlin
