Subject: Textures! Argh!

Okay I have totally fallen in love with some of the real looking characters I have seen! I wan't to make those textures too! lol I have tried playing around a bit but for some reason, tell me if I'm wrong, they never fit lol. What I do is take the map (I think it's called that, the grid you would make with uv mapper) into paint shop and paint (or use photos is I can) on the map where it says, you know eyes over eyes ext. then I save it. Now when I go to apply it to my character it doesn't fit. I do absolutely no resizing hoping that would make it work. Is there more to this than I am seeing? I'm lost but really really want to do this and I even used a tuturial lol. Smiles from me

This may not seem like the same problem but it may be...I couldn't even get a texture on a cube (not very ambitious, but I had my reasons). I made the UV map from the object, did my decoration thing, tried to apply it and the texture was suddenly smaller than the original cube and ended up with the flattened texture going on the original cube but not covering it completely, but actually looking like the colored UV map replicated as a small texture on the cube instead of covering the cube (if that makes any sense) with white in the spaces of insufficient coverage. I'm a UV Mapping drop out, bookmarking for enlightenment. :)

I am adding the one I did for posette, it almost worked, but I can see a line between head and neck, also the eyes, eybrows and feet are missing and her nipples look deformed lol. You know what?? I feel kind of stupid here now lol I used a map titled V3 and her lips were on the side of her head ext ext wellll just for the fun of it I tried V2 lol it fit her! looks aweful mind you and is missing the feet but it worked lol. I am going to get this right sooner or later I swear!

Well, you did better than I did with my cube!!! :( Not the same problem, I can tell now.

The template you use must be for the right figure. Posette and Vicky don't use the same textures, and as you've seen, they're mapped differently so strange things happen. Posette takes P4 woman textures, Vicky1 and Vicky2, the millenium girls and boys, take Vicky textures. But Vicky 3 has her own. There are special figures that are remapped though and take another's texture. The Vicky 2P4 figure takes Posette textures (if you have Vicky 2 you should have Vicky 2P4 as well), and Vicky 3 can be mapped to take Vicky 2 textures, but not out of the box. Also there are remapped figures out there (not the figures, really, but usually uvs files that have to be applied) that allow one figure to use another's textures.

dialyn, I have a sort of a feeling..... Did you save the new obj after you remapped it? I know it sounds dumb, but it's a common enough mistake. If you remap something, you must save the remapped obj and delete the old .rsr file in Geometries (because it stores the mapping info). Otherwise you're applying a new map to the obj with the old coordinates. FoxySeeLady, spit is correct. Make sure you apply the correct texture to the character it was made for. My advice would be to do your first tests on posette, (the P4 fem), who has the simplest mapping. Get her right, then move on to vicki. mac

Thank you all for your advice. I think I will follow it and stick to posette until I get it right!
