Subject: July / Aug Challenge.

RimRunner ( ) posted Wed, 16 July 2003 at 5:25 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 8:28 AM

Well, we've waited around for Thomas as long as I dare. Here is the idea, which still ties into last months challenge. Summer Activities While not really a vacation image, but things that you have/would like to do, during the summer. Be it mountain biking, late night BBQs in the cool evenings, or just a lazy raft ride down a forest stream. As you can tell by the title, this will end on Aug 25th (this is a firm date, no exceptions). Good luck everyone :)

Archery is my summer activity of choice. The technics i use is call Instinctive Shooting, it's realy Zen since all i have to aim at the target is my brain and my concentration. It's also a great family sport. If ever you have the chance to try it, please go for it and discover the indian in you :D Have a nice summer!

Dang! I'm so TRULY sorry I didn't submit a new challenge :( I've been spending a two weeks vacation in Greece, far, far away from anything I dare call internet so I had no chance :( I'm sorry for this... Anyway this sounds like fun!

I'm sorry, but I can't for the life of me find where I'm supposed to post this entry. So, I'm posting it here. I'd be happy to hear from anyone with advice on another location. Thanks, Acerebel

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 29 July 2003 at 7:20 PM

This is the place to post your challenge. :) Either the graphic itself or the link....you did fine.

I've posted it now in the Bryce Forum - Challenge Upload section, which I think is where the rules say to do it. I found it a bit confusing, but then creativity and logicality are not always bedfellows. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

dialyn ( ) posted Tue, 29 July 2003 at 7:41 PM

Oh, if you are entering the Bryce challenge, then you are correct. If you are entering the Challenge Forum for July, then this is the right place. There are many challenges running on many forums and, yes, it is confusing. Good luck!

RimRunner ( ) posted Fri, 01 August 2003 at 9:23 AM

While we've taking an extra amount of time to get this months challenge done... please don't forget.. we're already 1/2 way there... July is gone.. 3 weeks left for this challenge... Hope to see some more entries soon. :)

Off to the beach for swimming, sailing and fun! Image created in Bryce. Railing, boat, benches, glasses and bottle from free stuff.

Here is my submission for the July August challenge. The image is of fireflies that I created using Ultra Fractal because I haven't seen any yet this year so I decided to make some of my own.

RimRunner ( ) posted Thu, 21 August 2003 at 6:46 PM

Final days... last day for additional entries is Sunday night. Voting to begin on Monday !!

RimRunner ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 10:00 AM

Greetings... had hoped with the extra time that we'd get a few more entries.. but sometimes it give you too much time. Anyway.. On with the voting: The entries we got were all great summer related. :) but, there can be only one. ;) So I have to go with Tresamie and the beach scene. :)

Acerebel ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 10:20 AM

I'm going with Deloulark to win. I find the scene is creative, original and evocative. It suggests rather than states and uses the software in an unexpected way. I prefer the abstract rather than the literal in this instance, yet I can feel the hot summer night and see the lights of these insects. Good job by all entrants, though.

Am I too late? This is where I want to be.

fractalinda ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 11:22 AM

I apologize for the late posting. I was under the impression that today was the last day for entries. The title for the image in the previous post is, "A Tropical Summer Evening." Oh well, I'll get an early start for the next challenge. ;)

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 11:23 AM

It's quite lovely...late entry or not, I enjoy viewing it. :)

fractalinda ( ) posted Mon, 25 August 2003 at 12:29 PM

I like Tresamie's beach scene very much, but my vote is for Deloulark's Fireflies. I think it's a wonderful abstract interp of the tiny insects..and represents the Bayou summers beautifully.

stotty ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 1:16 AM

Hey all :) My vote goes also for Tresami's beach scene

dialyn ( ) posted Fri, 29 August 2003 at 7:14 AM

I'm voting for BowOnix. The others are quite wonderful, but he is showing someone actually engaged in a summer activity, which seems appropriate to me, given the challenge. Hard choice as usual. Since my summer activity was working and chasing after a puppy, I enjoyed the alternatives offered.

tresamie ( ) posted Sat, 30 August 2003 at 7:51 PM

I loved the variety of offerings on this month's challenge, despite the summer doldrums! Although I loved the other entries, Linda's "Tropical Summer Evening" gets my vote. Skywatching is a favorite activity for me and the Mars viewing has been incredible. This fractal reminds me of that. Tres

RimRunner ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 9:44 AM

Contrats to all entries... Here is the final count: Tresamie: 3 votes. Deloulark: 1 vote BowOnix: 1 Vote 'Linda: 1 Vote. Congrats Tresamie: Please start a new thread with Septembers challenge. :)

fractalinda ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 11:29 AM

So congratulations to both Tresamie and Deloulark!

RimRunner ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 11:32 AM

Yup yup yup. Congratulations to you both. Now.. this is always fun when we have two winners... there are a couple ways we can go for next months challenge: Two independant challenges. (one from each winner), then a overall winner between the two is picked.. or.. if you two want to talk it over and come up with a single challenge.

Well deserved...and lovely examples of how the same theme can be approached in very different ways. Good going!

tresamie ( ) posted Tue, 02 September 2003 at 12:05 PM

I will go and IM deloulark right now! Tres
