As many of you may have read, 3DmModelz.com is currently on the block for sale. I've engaged in negotiations to acquire their freebie stock and offer it as a feature of my site Poser City. In a nutshell, I'd like to add some features to many of the items, additional textures, etc and release them as exclusive freebies from my site, 5 to 10 per week or as I have the time to add, package or otherwise update them in some way. Anyways, I've assembled my thoughts on the matter here. Obviously, I want to gage community interest in this idea before spending to preserve what will ultimately still be a collection of free downloads. But what a collection. 400 +. It would be a shame to see these go away entirely. Anyways, comment on the article at the bottom if you care to. Thanks in advance for your input. Regards, Brent

I applaud the idea as expressed above. I didn't realize what a large collections of freebies 3DModelz had made available...it would be terrific if you are able to continue to support them. I can't imagine anyone having a problem. I can't read your article because the font is too small (and the trick with the mousewheel doesn't work on your site), but anything that preserves the good works of 3DModelz seems like a good idea. I wish you well in the venture and look forward to seeing more posted here about it.

Interesting. The mouse wheel seems to work for me. Thanks for your comment.

Here's the article in case you'd like to read it 3dModelz.com is being sold or possibly closing its doors. Of course this great resource disappearing would be a bad thing for Poser fans and moreover fans who love those great freebies. Im posting my thoughts on this matter openly because your input is important to me and will affect how I move forward in trying to find a way to preserve this great free resource site. In recent weeks weve reported the sad news that The reason given for the sale Due to rising administrative requirements, and a concurrent level of commitment and time, we are becoming unable to devote the time that 3dmodelz needs in order to go foreward, without compromising our personal realtionships. This distressed me a bit because as many of you know this site has been one awesome contributor of free poser sets and models. There are really few sites in existence with this many freebies that arent fraught with broken links and site outages. The buying options they offer are 2 in number. Option A. The buyer takes possesion of the 3dmodelz name, website, and all content at 3dmodelz, which excludes the Marketplace stock at Renderosity and our other brokered stores. And Option B. Buyer takes possesion of everything, including full rights to all existing retail stock, at all our brokered stores. For about two seconds I considered Option A to preserve their stock and absorb it into PoserCity.com. The domain name really holds little value for me, though for a person without a 3d community established identity, it would be useful. But 400+ free items. Now thats something that could add value to Poser City. Initially, Ive offered to consider a partnership or possibly bid to buy the site outright as in Option A. My concern was that such a cool brand would cease to be. Lets face it. There A lot of Worldz users out there. But then I noticed these two posts leading me to believe that the brand will basically split into two or three different stores, 3Dlands & Andi3d to name two weve already seen post in the Showcase at Rosity. http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12413&Form.ShowMessage=1359985 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12413&Form.ShowMessage=1356899 This makes a few things evident to myself. One, there cool and ever so customer friendly style of service will remain. I could speculate that their collaboration will go on as well base on the two preview images Ive looked at. But that is purely a guess. Two, I think this diminishes the chance of a buyout where 3dmodelz.com stays in tact. Basically theyd be selling their brand and launch 2 or 3 news ones right back in its place. Heres where you guys come in. If there is enough community support for the idea, basically if enough people want this to happen, I plan to make a cash offer to purchase strictly the freebies from their archive to offer here as PoserCity.com exclusives. Obviously, Im not gonna drop however much cash to buy items to give away here if theres no interest or support for the idea. If you feel strongly that preserving the 3dModelz freebies here at Poser should be a priority, please leave a comment on this article. Their remains the chance that 3Dmodelz.com will be purchased outright, in which case our problems with losing these great freebies will most likely be solved with the new owners carrying on. I cant help feeling a kindship between PoserCity.com and 3Dmodelz due to the friendship Ive forged with them and the cross promotion weve both enjoy from our mutual affiliation. Lets make sure a great site doesnt slip into oblivion.
