THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Grasses not being Approved - Ornlu's Angry face...

Ornlu ( ) posted Fri, 08 August 2003 at 12:44 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 9:17 AM

Ok, sorry but I feel the need to rant here because frankly, I am pretty freaking pissed off. I went through all of the free stuff qualifications even writing detailed documentation on the files and upload it after hosting it on MY host that I will end up paying for more bandwidth because of this + my normal website. And Clay PM's me saying that mac users can not use exe files and I have to use another compression... so my 1.4 meg file is no more, I use winrar, and get it down to 1.55 megs, I do file verification etc to make sure all the files work, try extracting it. Get my uncle who is on a mac to extract, get wintermute to try it, got draculaz to try it, and 2 of my Rl friends to try the file to make sure there were no errors. It unrar-ed perfectly, so I upload again do the whole freestuff deal, set it all up. Get another PM from Clay, "nstant Message from clay: Well for some reason now I'm getting an error on the .rar file GRRRRR I'm running Mac OSX 10.2.6 so sumptin be amiss with the file AAAAAAAAAaaaa..hmmm (Sent 8/7 22:49)" So..now I know it has to be his computer, because it's working perfectly for everyone else...I reply stating this and get this: " Instant Message from clay: There's nothing wrong with my mac, when I click your DL link it comes up with a text file not a download .rar file, I have to selct the text then save it out. And as far as uploading it's the site policy, not mine, the admins put it up for all Rendo mods and admins to check before it's approved, take it up with them, it doesn't offend me in the least." Now I am pissed... "txt File" wtf? I respond: "I have had 6 people so far use this file and have NO problem at all, it's most DEFINITELY on your end. If you want to debate it come on the IRC chanel that drac set up, Wintermute ( a mac user ) had no problems, Drac A windows user had no problems... two of my friends irl had no problems unzipping the file, my uncle on a mac had no problems with the file.... Frankly I am getting tired of this, why don't you have someone else test it out for you, so you can get a BALANCED OPINION, I am not trying to distribute A virus, I am not trying to give people False files. The FILE works, people have been asking for this for a long time, and if I can't get it approved the only way I can upload it AND HOST IT for free mind you then screw it I'm giving up, you win...." Finally he responds: "nstant Message from clay: Well for one I'm not arguing with you, I'm just saying I can't get the file to work. I'm sure the other mods and admins will test it and approve it, I'm just one of many that do. So don't be flyin off the handle at me, nothing round here is ever perfect." Nothing around here is perfect, it's ironic that it's more dificult to try to help by uploading a single file, than by distributing it manually myself... Considering 8 people have it now and it works... And Btw, I have every right to go flying off the handels, It took me a while to get this pack all set up for free, and then about 2 hours longer to test and verify it again with several people... The whole deal is taking about 10 hours, and this is the kind of response I get... This is why I am pissed, I appologize for any negative posts I have made tonight, but this is why FYI... So farking tired of this.. First about the IRC chanel now about a single model pack...

I would say a few things Ornlu, but as a moderator I won't. Like I said, I'm sure another person will try it and approve it.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

Ornlu ( ) posted Fri, 08 August 2003 at 12:56 AM

Well clay APparently the next person that tried it DID approve it because it's working right now.

Hope you guys don't mind my trying to pinpoint the problem here: Ornlu, the others who have successfully opened and used the file, did they download from the same place, too? Or did you e-mail the file to them? Sometimes, that makes a difference. I work on both Mac and PC, and there are times I try to download something and for one reason or another, either my computer or the web server from which I'm trying to download just can't recognize the file for what it is. Usually it's the web server. Maybe it isn't set up to host certain files, or in the act of uploading the file it got corrupted or interpreted incorrectly (ASCII instead of Binary, or vice versa).

Eh... never mind... lol. You guys are too fast for me. I didn't see the last two posts before I posted.

Ornlu ( ) posted Fri, 08 August 2003 at 1:09 AM

If you can modify the description, warn Mac users that they may have to drag the URL to the desktop to actually download it. The problem would be that .rar is a very uncommon file on a mac, so IE wouldn't have designated file helpers for it. When IE doesn't know what to do with it, it opens as a text file. If the mac users drag the URL to the desktop, Stuffit should kick in.

Ornlu ( ) posted Fri, 08 August 2003 at 5:10 PM

Ok will do that. But rar is the best compression, and my retail pack will have to be in rar format to fit the 25 meg limit, it's 24.8 megs compressed... lol...

:( I just tried downloading it, and sent you a message before I read this post. Your work is magnificent, and I'd so much like the models! Britt
