THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: To Doublecrash...and everyone else I guess. About the August Challenge

tjohn ( ) posted Mon, 11 August 2003 at 4:36 PM · edited Tue, 25 February 2025 at 4:23 AM

I am just putting the finishing touches on my entry and I suddenly realized: I'm using an object I used in a previous challenge entry. Just before the April Challenge I was making a metaball elephant and subsequently used it in the challenge. That was the "thingy" challenge and the elephant did not relate directly to it. The image I am making for the August Challenge is an African river with a family of elephants crossing it. The trees I created for the challenge are on the far side of the river. I have tweaked the elephants quite a bit, and am really fond of the results...so Stefano, would it be O.K. to reuse an object that has been in a previous challenge in your current challenge? I did model the object in 100% Bryce myself, and it is being used in an entirely different context. To me, it would be like saying you couldn't use the same car model in two different challenges, but I don't want anyone to be P.O.'ed over it. I would like to hear from the rest of you, too.

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

personally I wouldn't see why it isn't okay to reuse the object. Especially if you tweaked it.

Sounds fine to me, if B4 users are allowed to use the presets, then I don't see why you couldn't use your own model again. It's up to DC, though, I guess.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't use it, John. It's a model created by you and entirely in Bryce, so for me it fits perfectly. And I recall it was really cool too, btw :) S.

I disagree. The challenge is supposed to be all new creations. Just kidding, of course. Go ahead TJohn--I loved those elephants the first time I saw them, and can't wait to see them again!

Cool with me tjohn.

It would seem to be unanimous. Thanks to all! Tjohn

Every time we use a textured import like a 3ds or poser object, isn't that an object that someone else comitted work on prior to the month's challenge? Not only are you asking to use an import, which has already been allowed for the challenge, you're using your own import. If it were a case where you had three elephants around a tree in a post two months ago and you posted the exact same image or maybe just moved the camera a bit it would be an issue. The challenge for this month is supposed to be a nature scene and depend heavily on the one new tree you do. If your tree looks great I don't see when or how the other objects in the scene were created matter.
