'Chelle, I'm not able to click the drop downs for ranking now.
I'm a regular apple mouse without buttons and the >argh< new Safari 1.0 browser.
Any ideas on how to rank now?

there are so many ways to get around this, and I'm not just talking of screenshots and searching through the code to find images... if people really wanna steal the image and use it, they will always be able to. My personal feeling is that if you don't want to take the risk of your house getting robbed, don't buy a house. no right click java scripts... renderosity is turning into a Geocities site...

cross w/spidey. Spidey, if you don't want to take the risk of owning a computer with a hockeypuck one button mouse and everything that comes with it, don't buy a computer with a hockey puck one button mouse. Message671425.jpg

sorry...i can control click to get the drop options...nevermind ;~}

spiderwebb ( ) posted Tue, 12 August 2003 at 12:34 PM

come over here and say that! nah ~ nah

DHolman ( ) posted Tue, 12 August 2003 at 1:28 PM

shrug As I always say, none of this stuff actually works ... the image is already on the other person's computer. Just depends if they really want it or not; especially if they use one of the many free Web Spiders that are around. Doesn't effect me though. Enax - If you use Internet Explorer, hold down the SHIFT key when you left kick on the thumbnail. That will open it in a new window (works on URL links too). -=>Donald

enax ( ) posted Tue, 12 August 2003 at 2:35 PM

Yes, Donald thanks, I knew, I said this as isn't importat the use of right click. Agree with you in the first part of your message, it's easy to download or recover images and this won't deprive the use incorrect of images, but perhaps will decrease. Thanks for the advice (Donald and Michelle)

Some people are correct, two or three weeks ago I received and IM from a member of a Polish website with galleries of some artists, asking for include some of my works in their gallery. Until I authorized this, they didn't post my images in their web.

phopreulimm ( ) posted Tue, 12 August 2003 at 3:06 PM

In IE6, I can hover over an image and it gives me the option to save the picture... I dont have to right click or anything. I made a test page with the no-right click code in it and I can still save the pictures on it, so this aint gonna change much for a lot of users unless they can find a code to mess with that too.

What a joke tbh. In mozilla I can still right click. And if a javascript is used (and it is a javascript) it's simple to disable javascript in your settings and they whole 'security scheme' falls appart.

Once you put it (image) on the web people can take it. Because once they vieuw the image it is IN their computer. It's simple enough to dig up the image from the cache if your browser.

I understand why the effort is made, I just think it's a waste of time and bandwith.

Addition (I really miss an edit post here): I usually navigate in mozilla by right clicking and choosing 'Back' which is the 1st menu option. If they manage to get it working in mozilla (yes I know how, no I'm not gonna tell you :)) that would mean they're imparing the way I navigate the site which would really bug me.

Wow. I never knew there were so many ways around a right click! I can understand why Rsity is doing this. There is a fair amount of Theft being done. Sometimes the artist cares, sometime they don't. I think having a OPTIONAL button for disabling the right click is a great idea. I'm sure many people post picture just in this forum alone that while the model may NOT mind being seen by others. Being told that they may be downloaded and ...whatevered by the Renderosity community MIGHT give them pause before volentearing, posing ect. I saw one person who suggested that we contact the artist and ask for a sending of the image if we like it. I thought that was a good idea. At the very least it will give us a more comunnal feeling and let us know which pictures are being appreciated. Just my two cents worth. Now that I have said that. Don't be surprised if you hear from me via IM for copies of your work!!! Bsteph

BPM-emperor, Not everything is as black and white. Perhaps a person likes expressing themselves BUT does not like other -potentially stealing their work. Perhaps one does not mine doing something for free but takes issure when someone else capitulates upon their ideas. Bsteph

this is a subject I inquired about a couple of weeks ago as I am considering putting up a website to promote and sell prints of my work. I doubt that much will come of it, but thought I might give it a try. So I am somewhat concerned about how to protect myself and my stuff in that regard. On the forum, (not really meaning to sound hypocritical, but sounding that way anyway), I don't think the file sizes that I send would allow an image to be printed out in the size or quality that I intend on promoting. So on here anyway, I do feel honored if someone thinks enough of my stuff to put it on their machine for their own private viewing. I know this makes no sense straddling the fence on this issue so to speak, but to those of us delusional folks who dream of selling their picture to the public at large, this is an issue of some concern. I feel confidant that the folks on this forum will treat each other's images with respect and that the forum will continue in the open manner that it has since way before I joined it.

this is what I wrote on the thread to the mods... Congrats to the Mods for trying this. not an effective option but thanks you for thinking of us! My suggestion is to those posting. Save your images to no more quality than is absolutely needed to show your talant. Keep size to a minimum. Make your image small enough on screen so that its not practical for someone to steal it. That will go farther than anything the mods can do. They can impliment tons of coding protocals and if someone REALLY wants it, they will get it. Making it inconvienent is only going to stop the lazy theives. No matter how much we complain or explain how this may or may not work, the mods are working FOR US and trying to help resolve the issue. For that they should be applauded. Thank you. Magick Michael

zhounder is right so I'll shut up and give the mods a standing ovation of one.....clapping furiously.....

Administration is only trying to meet the needs of the membership on this.... While our little photo community is probably not affected much by this, the Poser Community and other 3D galleries here have been hit hard by image theft....and this is/was an attempt to make things a bit more difficult for those who may want take images for purposes that are not innocent. shrug Michael (zhounder) made some very good points. I suggest taking his advise in regards to the sizes and quality of images you post.

Hmmm. Considering how easy it is to pick up any image from your cache after viewing I don't think the new addition will make a bit of difference. Why don't you just supply a copy of the 10 comandments with each membership? Be about as effective, imo..... (",)
