THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: turn turn turn/ why won't it turn:(

I sent this message to "Caligula". But incase she is on vacation, I thought I would post here as well. I have a really problem that I have been aching to get fixed and that is.... In the Bryce 4 F/x book on Page 312 is a tutorial about making an making a flying device fly. It is called "Wild Ride" (chapter 7) I viewed the quicktime video which displays the flying device turning corners while flying. The first thing that the author tell me is to import the Between 8 and Mobius ribbon path in the document. That lets the flying device move along a path. The path is a figure 8 type pattern, but when ever I try to get the flying device (a kind of an eggshell with a hole in it) to turn the corners, it won't. I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can't make the flying device turn so I can set the animation further along the path. The patter is in a form of a number 8, so it mentions simply to drag the flying device to were you start. But you are supposed to set two key frames I believe, one to start and the other at the finish. So I try to follow all the instructions to the letter of the law but the darn flying eggshell will under no circumstances obey my command to turn around the bend of the figure eight type corners. The whole figure eight Mobius ribbon path turns with with flying eggshell:(. I can't get both seperated were one in independant of the other so I can move the eggshell seperately. I thought if I just had the figure eight track seperate and copied and pasted the flying eggshell into the Mobius figure eight path (seperate document), it would do the trick., But when I try to move just the flying eggshell, the WHOLE:( thing moves:(, the 8 Mobius path and the flying eggshell. Could you please give me a clue on how to make the flying eggshell movable (not just up and down or sideways). But I need it to SWIVEL in oder to make it follow and turn to it's selected animation. Thanks so much for your time. tiles2@home.com Bill

Sorry Bill, I'm not sure I can help you. I haven't done any animations in Bryce. =-( Nor do I have the Bryce FX book. I can try to replicate the instructions (if you sent them to me in the email) and I can try to make the animation happen and then tell you what I did. Sarah

Hi tile. check to make sure your path is not grouped with the egg.(that might explain the path "swiveling"as you rotate the egg.(I assume you are trying to make it bank around the turns). I'll read the tutorial tonight and see if I can find out what's going wrong. I have to find the book ( I know it's around here somewhere) Hawkfyr

Hi, I see that you're covering all of the bases for this question ... :) Have you tried the suggestion from the Bryce list? The align to path under attributes for the "egg"? That should do you. TTFN!

Also make sure you don't have the object aligned with path in the attributes box, in Bryce 4 and 4.1 there is a bug that was never fixed where the object spins weirdly towards the end of the path, that's fixed by simply by adjusting the axis of the object and where you want it positioned, and re-applying that last keyframe.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!
