THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Some thoughts on the Bryce challenge this month.

So I was thinking what to do today, about the challenge. My first thought was to make a mecha that would hand a budding flower to a young girl (or the other way around) in a completely desolate landscape. I was going for the desolate look just so I can avoid having to make leaves in the tree lab, seeing as how it sucks donkey droppings in the first place... Since I don't really like the way the mecha ended up looking like I put it on the backburner and thought of leeching Ornlu's grass and just making a nature scene... LOL... like THAT's gonna happen with my skills in landscaping...

So I emailed a good friend of mine and asked him for a favor. Sure enough, I just got a reply with the most amazing tree. It's a lightwave export from XFrog, who the friend owns, and he was generous enough to share. So yeah... heh... I was thinking of completely cheating out DC's challenge and making a forrest of these perfect trees, and maybe adding a little tree sprout, which would be Bryce. Just to annoy the bejesus out of the people who are gonna spend countless hours trying to figure out that bloody tree lab.

Thankfully for all of you, I really am not in the mood for nature scene rendering, so I kinda scrapped that idea too. But I swear to all that's good and holy that I'm gonna cheat this challenge out of everything it's got. Not necessarily because the damned tree lab is buggy, but because I'm not good at it, and the damned tree lab is a buggy piece of Drac chocolate. And to use DTE for the trees, the leaves and the trunks? Dream on.

So yeah, I came out clean now because I wanted to say what I had to say. I would like to win this challenge just so I can choose a more christian-like topic. Also, since I know that I positively suck at nature scenes, I realize that I don't have the time to learn this. I'd rather cheat my cute little behind off and lean on your mercy with an awesome pic rather than make a mediocre render. Just me though :)

I am evil. Sometimes. Best of luck to all of us, and may God have mercy on our souls.

I just found your post interesting, that's all. Generally, I find your work quite inspiring--I guess I was suprised this time to hear you state "I'm gonna cheat this challenge."

draculaz ( ) posted Sat, 16 August 2003 at 12:56 PM

well, it won't technically be cheating... actually not cheating at all. I'm going to abide completely by the things set out by DC. I'm just debating out loud what's going through my mind as someone who has very little knowledge of nature scenes in Bryce. I know these challenges are supposed to be learning experiences, but I'm just too busy with other projects to consider it too seriously. My honesty is simply jaw-dropping, that's all :D

And what exactly makes you think anyone will vote for your pic if you come right out and state you are going to cheat and not even play by the rules. My advice is if you don't have the time to do the challenge right then don't enter at all. The whole point is to LEARN the treelab and the DTE. Jaw dropping is right, I think sometimes you are so full of yourself.

Innovator ( ) posted Sat, 16 August 2003 at 2:52 PM

i completely agree with Aldaron, just suck it up and spend some time in the treelab. And if you can't enter it seriously, just don't do it....that simple

aprilgem ( ) posted Sat, 16 August 2003 at 5:11 PM

What's the point of calling it a challenge if you don't let it challenge you?

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sat, 16 August 2003 at 9:02 PM

DC should have called this challenge the treelab blues, since you seem to have the blues about using it Drac. Just be a masachist instead of a sadist for a while, the pain of learning the treelab may turn you on, you never know until you try. 8) Catlin

Gee, I just love when I upset you, Drac :)

draculaz ( ) posted Sat, 16 August 2003 at 9:35 PM

Not gonna vote for me? oh come on, don't make me cry... my whole life revolves around these challenges! Drac

draculaz ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 5:01 AM

a lot of people use little cheats in their renders. I'm not gonna cheat the church of England, I'm cheating Doublecrash... plus it's not the first time anyway. winks at EYECON. 5 DOLLA I GIVE YOU GOOD TIME G.I.! Drac

Zhann ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 5:37 PM

Oh Drac, you naughty boy, you do play on our sympathy...I would think you, of all people would like to grow as an artist, however, go ahead and do whatever you want for the challenge, you aren't cheating DC, just yourself...the treelab may be buggy but there are those wiling to bite the bullet and try to get something decent out of it....and I too, like Eyecon, find your postings amusing.......oh well...;]
