Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 01 9:10 pm)
Actually, it depends. Because if you used the poser props to make the door, they will all have the same material - Preview. What you would have to do is assign new materials to each part BEFORE you export the obj. You can do this with the grouping tool, but I haven't done it that way for years, so I can't remember how. I think you just use the tool and click 'assign new material'. Someone will know. Once you've done that, any obj export will retain the materials you assigned. mac
Yup, mac is right.
Use the Group Tool ...
Select the object (or body part) to which you want to assign material.
Open the Group Edit tool.
Make a "New Group" and give it a "name."
Click on (to select) the polygons that you want in that group.
"Assign Material" (for that group) and give it a "name."
Dr Geep uses the same name for the "group" and the "material."
(but you don't have to use the same name)
The "Material" name (NOT the group name) you give it is the name that will appear in the "Surface Material" window drop down list.
(when you are finished assigning "groups" and their associated "material" names)

Hi,
Thanks to some inspiration from Dr. Geep's tutorial on creating a patio door, I figured out how to make simple props inside poser (phew, what a relief it is when you know how to do that)and its going great but is it possible for different colors to remain on the OBJ you export, ie, the door is purple but the window frame is grey, that sort of thing. It seems to me like it isn't but you know.
Thanks
