Not that I have anything at all to do with the production of this, except maybe for the suggestion (thanks so much guys - you are the best). But this is far and away the best carousel I've ever seen for Poser. I own the Daz Carousel, and even tho I love the Daz folks, it doesn't even come close to this one. The sea monster just blows me away...LOL. So much detail for so little money, I just had to have it. It's on sale till the 22nd too, so it ya want it, travel on over to Imagination Works and grab it. You won't be sorry :o). Sorry for posting this here, but since I didn't make it and I'm not selling it, I wanted everyone to see it - just because I thought it was so fantastic :o). There've been so many negative posts lately that I just thought I'd post something nice and postive ;o)... What a beauty! Laurie

WOW! That is beautiful! Is that a straight Poser render? Default lighting? Which version?

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 11:34 AM

It's a Poser 4 render with a teensy bit of post with one of Traveler's free global lights (RDNA freestuff). All I did was duplicated it on a layer and set the layer to Overlay in Photoshop. I almost always do that with a render - adds depth. But it looks awesome right out of the box. I'll post a straight render :o). Laurie

Here it is in a pure Poser 4 render with the same lights I used in the image above. Pretty, huh??? ;o) Laurie

Spanki ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 11:49 AM

I did was duplicated it on a layer and set the layer to Overlay in Photoshop. I'll have to try that. I normally do 2 layers, one set to 'soft light' and one set to 'screen' (in PaintShop Pro), then I adjust the opacity of the two layers for the desired effect. Excellent looking carousel, btw ;).

Very nice. I really like the effect on the "brick" floor of the first render but I prefer being able to see more of the background detail in the socond one. Not that I'm being a "critic". :-)

very beautiful work done on this one..TOP

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 12:21 PM

Well, in the real world, details DO get lost in the shadows - the world is full of contrast :o). However, my emphasis was not on the render, but on the model. I just love it ;o). Laurie

genny ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 12:35 PM

Yeah, I LOVED it the first time I layed eyes on it. Of course, I just had to buy it too, but for the money, I think it is worth every penny..........it is soooooo beautiful! (: genny

If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Frankenstein's Castle animation at the site. Very, very impressive. Jeez, why didn't I already know about this site? They have such incredible models! Some of the best cars, boats, dinosaurs, and mammals I've ever seen for Poser.

LaurieA ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 1:56 PM

My point in posting this xoconostle ;o). Not too many folks DO know about the site...LOL. They're really missing out. Laurie

Fortunately I found these folks a couple of years ago and wound up buying all their 3DS Steam Locomotives. They are TOTALLY AWESOME, especially if you are a Train Freak like I am (I also play with Microsoft Train Simulator- which has remarkably good 3D rendering, BTW, for a cheap price.) The classic Antique Pipe Organ looks like a real steal for $10 (poser Ready) Wish they made a Bass Fiddle. Looks like I'll have to pay $40 for DAZ's Music Room. But I shouldn't whine- that's also an extremely nice model set and totally worth it.

Tom and Pam doing really great job on this for very long time and have really much more that almost other website around when you need special stuff.. I think it was a great Idea of Laurie to remind some of us about this website again.. and with " The great work on this one " I mind the model and texturing ;) lol but great render too Thanks again Laurie

I remember these guys now, there was a big hoodoo because they were accused of using Posette and they ended up making a deal to use her. That female centaur even has the freebie hair that we used to use for Posette. Love the carousel but I'm still broke from the last Daz sale and LaRoo...lol Marque

Catharina Przezak ( ) posted Sun, 17 August 2003 at 8:18 PM

I know Marque I starded working on textures for the new model on this time but I stop .. but well they are ok as people and do also nice stuff self.. Cath

Marque, I remember "Amy" as well, and so this site just isn't on my shopping horizon. I don't care how handsome this looks (and I have a weakness for the Illions' animals), if I need a second carousel in addition to my DAZ model I'll go to VistaInternet. Carolly

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 10:21 AM

I love the Daz carousel, and I like the fact that it has a rocking horse and a globe. Yes I think I would be very wary of shopping there after that problem, don't know that I would trust being able to use the items commercially. Marque

I honestly don't know about this incident people are refering to reguarding Poser characters- and I think the LAST THING I would ever buy there are their Poser characters, anyway. There are tons of better characters at at DAZ or in the REN Marketplace. BUT- their STRONG POINT are their 3D models of Objects, nearly everyone who has bought them seem to really rave about them. The models I have bought there are excellent (train engines) LaurieA has bought their carousel and really loves it. Her renders seem to prove her right. Dave-So has purchased their motorcycles and seems to be raving about them, also. A bit of history about them that I DO KNOW- they had some of the VERY FIRST, If not FIRST, highly realistic female babe characters for 3DStudio way back in the EARLY 1990's, like circa 1992-93 I think. They sold for lots of money then, of course- mostly to high-end animators. That's why a rip-off of Poser, as implied, would seem odd to me, based on that history, since they were hugely ahead of Zygote, Acuris and others (if they even existed then). I wonder if they are getting an unfair rap---?

Here is the initial thread regarding the Amy issue so people do know what they're refering to and it is out there in Renderosity history as fact. A search for "Amy" will show that thread and the subsequent fixing of the issue.

But this doesn't mean that they are a company to avoid. Anyone can screw up and make a mistake and if I remember correctly, a hand was the only issue and not the whole mesh. If someone has doubts based on what's been posted here, they should do the research and see what the outcome was before assuming anything.

LaurieA ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 2:58 PM

Hmmmm...the thread is degenerating again...sigh Laurie

Marque ( ) posted Mon, 18 August 2003 at 4:48 PM

Sorry if I appear to be giving them a bad rap, I'm not telling anyone not to shop there, just stated that I would probably not, based on the history. If you will remember they did not step up and admit what was happening until after a lot of flak over it. Not saying for anyone else to avoid them so please don't put words in my mouth. People have a right to know the history of a company. Marque

Marque, I wasn't singling your comments out at all. The subject of the Amy issue was mentioned and all I was attempting to do was to suggest that those who didn't see the threads give it a look and not let a few not so glowing comments here, that people may have no knowledge of, affect their decision to shop there.

Laurie, I was attempting to help. I didn't think they deserved bad publicity now over the resolved Amy issue. Especially when they do such wonderful work.
