Subject: Need help with volumetric light/ Poser 5

JohnRender ( ) posted Tue, 19 August 2003 at 1:15 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 11:57 PM

Okay, I'm trying to do a scene in Poser 5 using its volumteric lighting abilities. I set up the Vicky 3 and Mike 2 character (with clothing) and set the lights where I wanted them. I then went to the lights and adjusted the nodes so I could get volumteric lighting.

Every other time that I render a scene, I get an error message saying that Poser is out of memory. This can't be! I have over 3G of memory and 2 100G hard drives! What is going on?

I downloaded and installed both service packs for Poser 5, so that can't be the problem.

My system specs are:

  • Dual AMD 5000 processors, running at 3G each
  • 3.5G of Level-3 DIMM memory
  • 512k bus, running at 1G
  • Dual SSCI RAID 100G Maxtor hard drives
  • 27" flat-screen plasma monitor running at 1600x1200 resolution
  • Hercules 5 video card with 512M video memory
  • 5 avialable PCI slots
  • 2 avaialble USB slots
  • Windows 95, SR 1

This message was meant as sarcasm. Please do not offer "correct" advice on how to tweak Poser to work on a Windows 95 system. Although it will go right over the heads of the people that most need it, I think everyone will agree that a top-of-the-line computer means nothing if it's running an obsolete operating system. This has been a public service announcement urging everyone to upgrade off of DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows 98, especially if they're trying to run any 3-D programs!

Gosh.....if it wasn't for you JohnRender we would all just be up shit creek in our stupidity! (This message was meant as a sarcasm for those who think they have a corner on the "common sense" market)

I agree about the OS. I upgraded everything on my computer system 1 Gig memory doubled the processor speed used every memory manager and utility out there and still had extremely slow renders and frequent lockups. I finally gve in and upgraded from Win98 to XP. My performance increased by almost drastically (11.5 min to 2 min for a single render).

{Get a Mac} Good suggestion. Last night I went out and got myself a super-fast, super-high-end, custom-built G5. But, Poser still won't work. Do I have to use a Mac version or something? :) Or does it have antyhing do with the fact that it's running System 6?
