Subject: Any news about the Millennium Cat ?

Krall ( ) posted Tue, 19 August 2003 at 5:11 AM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 3:29 AM

Wasn't it promised to be released in July-August or something? It's taking ages to get a decent cat in Poser... I could think of a MILLION scenes where I'd need it... MUCH more than the endless texture packs and duplicate clothing items of the Platinum Club... how is that there is a zillion artists ready to make the useless 5793467th texture pack or koshini pack and nobody willing to deliver a useable cat that thousands would buy??

Dizzie ( ) posted Tue, 19 August 2003 at 5:39 AM

It's still in Beta and a release date hasn't been given to the testers.....

the cat is coming soon... soon....

"Wasn't it promised to be released in July-August or something?" No. Anton recently stepped in to explain that priorities had to be shuffled for awhile, but that he and Michael are back to work on the cat. As you probably know, DAZ has been busy with at least two major projects. They're well aware of the desire for the cat. In fact, I'm almost certain that repeated requests to Anton in this forum are what led to its development. This seems to have changed, but originally, Anton advised that the cat wouldn't be "Millennium," which I took to mean that while it would have some morphs, it would be basically your tabby housecat variety of feline. He'd mentioned some issues with simulating fur, and it was generally agreed at the time that most people wanted a short-haired cat anyway. The Koshini and textural items you mention are brokered, whereas the cat is an in-house project. I doubt if the development of textures and Koshini add-ons has anything to do with perceived delays on the cat. If you've seen any of the preview photos, you know you're gonna love the little cutie. :-)

yes, Michael has been hard at work finishing the cat. And its really really gorgeous, and really coming very soon. Koshini has nothing to do with the cat. M3 and V3 on the other hand are another story, I'm very sure resources have been stretched to the limit developing and supporting them concurrently. I'm just happy as heck that the cat is coming soon!

I'm trying, I'm trying. =P But in the midst of all the changes due to testing I've also been adding things in, like this morph for an exotic shorthair... so, things taste better slow-cooked. ;)

Oh GREAT! I was thinking of an exo too becourse that way people with monster computers could grow P5 hair on it and make a persian. I just never got around to actually SUGGEST it. And with my 3 races here at home covered (aby, Sia and Ori) I didn't NEED it myself :o) But thanks for adding it. It is easily recognizeable as an Exotic :o)

All of the previews of the MilCat have been great! Especially since earlier we were told that it might not be a Millennium-type model. It's great to see that the cat will have a lot of versatility. BTW, I don't remember ever hearing of a release date for the cat. I thought it was a continuing-development thing, not a July-August thing :)

Wow!!!!!!! Those morphs are stunning! I think that will be my fave. So much personality in that face!! I can hear her thinking!

That picture reminds me of the Stuart Little cat. Take your time, dude! It is gonna be worth the wait. Tim

sandoppe ( ) posted Tue, 19 August 2003 at 6:14 PM

I love that face as well! Very close to a Persian.....will there be a "flatten the face" morph? :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Tue, 19 August 2003 at 8:47 PM

GAGKH! Ugly little flat faces so the poor kitties can't breath and snot drips out of their noses?!?!? The breeders ought to be stripped of THEIR reproductive capacity for what they did to cats when they made flat faces. Cats are supposed to have pointy noses with good open sinuses for testing the air and smelling the world. Take away their ability to smell and you might as well blind them, too. Carolly, no fan of Persians, major friend to cats

sandoppe ( ) posted Tue, 19 August 2003 at 11:06 PM

Whoa!! Persians are wonderful Carolly! Mine can smell and have never once had snot drip out of their noses :) Mine don't have the "extreme" flattened faces that I've seen on some.....not much flatter in fact than the exotic shorthair pictured above. And they are the sweetest cats :)

Oh, I want a pussy! Suddenly my urge to get my hands on Michael 3 is diminished. I mean, we all know that cats are much more relible than men, don't we girls?

Speaking of bizarre breeding (and going off topic,) I recently met my first "Sphinx" cat. For those who don't know, the Sphinx is the variety used for "Mr. Bigglesworth" in the Austin Powers movies. They're very strange looking. It looks like they have no fur, but they do, and it's very soft. Furthermore, they're very, very friendly and well-behaved. I understand the objections to extremes of breeding, but I was charmed by the affectionate Sphinx.
