THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: DTE question

And while I'm lucky enough to be here for a few minutes, here's a question for you DTE gurus...

How can I change the "Texture Value" and Texture Bump"

Check the following to see what I'm after...

This is a screen shot of "Verdant Hills" preset

Yet, when I try to duplicate this, I have to first choose the value and texture from the dropdown arrow in the upper right corner. However, that "waves2" looks like this....

Nukeboy ( ) posted Wed, 20 August 2003 at 6:38 PM

How can I manipulate those second two windows??? It seems it's only the first window that I can manipulate in the DTE So confused...

click the red marble on the top left hand corner of the mini window you have circled in red.

You will see this in the deep texture editor. It's these two textures combined by the fast slope filter that gives you Verdant Hills. I've made a composite of the settings with the noise filter and phase panels open. They don't all open at once.

Clicking on the upper left corner that is light green of the noise box opens the big box above it. The little purple dot is in the first hole. This means you are looking at component 1. clicking on the second hole moves the purple to the second position and the big box changes to display component two's settings. Check out the DTE tutorials posted for the challenge for lots more pictures and explanations.

If I understand you correctly, there's no prohibition on duplicate DTE names but the DTE list is only saved DTE items. With the top Waves 2 go into the DTE and next to the combo preview click the little brass colored button and in the DTE Texture library save it under a new name. Now you should be able to select it from the pop-up list. HTH; Dan

I have duplicated every aspect of the Verdant hills (colors, phase and noise of each component) including the various blends (the arrow between each component) and the other method (whatever you callit, the down arrow directly below the three color dots of each component). Nothing seems to change the second two windows in the regular mat editor (texture value and texture bump) These seem to only change if you click the down arrow on the upper right... I think Dan has my solution, but that last whiskey sour is confusing me. Can you give me a screen shot of that little "brass" button?

Here you go - in the Material Editor click the button shown at left. That takes you to the DTE where you click the button shown on right. HTH; Dan

Rayraz - here's a direct link (no html page) to the zipped .mat. It's been checked on both the Mac and PC but if there's any problems please let me know. It's slope mapped so that on flat surfaces it's mossy and on the vertical it's rocky. Best; Dan
