$20 a day (but they'll adjust the cost if you can't afford it) for a week or a year, maybe not super delux accomodations but a gorgeous setting. *Our hope is that the tranquility offered by Flores Island will inspire and cultivate in our residents a clarity of purpose and renewed passion for their soul's work.* Where the heck is this place? *Flores & Corvo, are actually the western tip of the Azores Archipelago of 9 Islands , and are, like the other seven, a territory of Portugal.* Check out the webpage....the place looks gorgeous. Don't we all, every once in awhile, dream of getting away and being able to just focus on writing. This looks good to me...in this summer time, what would your idea be of the perfect retreat????

Well, I don't actually dream of getting away and being able to focus on writing. Getting away, yes, but I have no yen for focus. The one I dream about is the six week long writer's workshops, because of the chance to interact with other writers, and get intesive critiques and so forth. As for perfect location... a log cabin in the rockies (or even more special would maybe be the alps?) sounds ideal to me, as long as it has internet access. I grew up in the foothills and I miss real mountains. Oceans don't have the same draw for me.

Just the thought of being without my computer and the Internet... AAAARGHH The perfect retreat for me is my own couch, in my own livingroom, with my laptop, one cat purring next to my head, the other one at my feet and some soft background music...

Any place will do fine if I don't have to get up and go to work every day,... a life lived by the pen rather than by the sword,... what an idea,... but just for sheer inspiration and mood setting, a place to make me write, a place to constantly inspire me,... no place like the Rocky Mountains!! Give me a cabin away from the bustle, no money worries, no bills to pay, no traffic to fight, a T-1 straight into my office, a fireplace and snow falling outside,... add a glass of fine brandy, a smoking jacket and a pipe and I'm in heaven. OK,... skip the pipe.
