Subject: ADMIN - How are we doing?

Well how do you feel we, the mods, are doing in our job(s)? Our job: Keep the Poser Forum running smoothly, without disruptions Read every active thread, every day to keep an eye on the Forum Assist all members with Poser related technical questions, if possible Remove or lock all threads containing innapropriate behaviours or links Warn members who are being disruptive Check all images posted to the Poser Gallery to make sure they are within our TOS Move all commercial threads to the Showcase Forum Check all Poser freebies to make sure that they are legal and the links work Maintain the Poser backroom and Community Run the Poser Forum Image Contests Maintain communication with all relevant software companies including Curious Labs, DAZ, E-On, Corel Be helpful and nice (I'm sure I left out something .... but thats a fairly good idea of what we do) If you do not feel comfortable posting in the forum, email your comments to lyrra@renderosity.com

Honestly, Lyrra, In my previous thread I never intended you guys to think that I feel you're not doing a good job, I just had a particular problem with certain things. I run several websites relating to gamers, who can be some of the most immature and disruptive people in the world. I deal with problem users everyday and move threads that bare not appropriate to where they belong. I try to read every thread, but I also try to rely on the members to contact myself and the moderators of my sites to let us know when something is going amiss. However, I always carefully go over a thread to see if it's appropriate in the forum it's in. Unless it's blatant from the start (i.e. someone asks a modeling question in a mapping forum) I carefully go over the posts made by the thread starter to see if the post is where it belong until I know for certain and without even a shred of doubt what the purpose of the thread was.

Overall I would say the admins are doing an admirable job in an unadmirable situation.
It is hard to please everyone, and it seems that often "good policy" gets lost under trying to quell the fires of the more disruptive elements who have nothing better to do than whine and complain. As a result, mistakes can be made and members of this community can get hurt or offended, even if it is not the intention.
Though personally I would rather the admins work with the contributing members rather than bowing to the disruptive ones (cuz they yell louder)...but thats just my opinion, and i know it is not so easy to do

IN general, the admins seem to be doing a rather decent job. However, being unceremoniously banned without warning makes me a little unconfortable, as I e3nd up with more underscores on the front of my name. Ahem

LonCray ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 2:53 PM

I think y'all are doing just fine in a relatively thankless job. It can't be easy dealing with the politics in here, and I think you've handled it as best as can be expected.

Mec4D ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 2:55 PM

Admin and moderators job is not simple for sure.. they can't handle as all other members they are neutral to all and can't say for real what they think (this is the theory).. this is only a function so I will never wish to switch with your job here.. But one more thing what you all can do for us.. just don't allow a prepared ordinary complains threads regarding products in Poser forum or other stuff.. there are many moderators that wait with own support and this works always perfect without big discussions... the problem are solved direct..( I know from my own experience) put in little more class and respect to other members that will a better idea to do..and everything will change in good way.. What I have from the all nice tutorials, reviews, super guests and all what you do for us when here sometimes you see a real pigs stall .. is that a way for a Poser Cummunity? You and all other did this job very good but you all need to take your job more serious as you do already... let show Who is the boss here and Who created the rules ..or the rules will take you off one day as this started slowlly a long time ago because of this problems. With my all respect to you Admin. and all Moderators, Cath

I feel the Mods do the best they can under the circumstances. I feel the problem lies with unclear rules. I think it is impossible for the Mods to know what to do when they aren't sure what the rules are either. Of course, I do not truly know what the Mods think or feel. This is just my take on it. I admire you all for dealing the best you can with so many different people. I just think there should be clear rules and fair treatment for all. Beth

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 3:44 PM

You're doing a good job. You still miss occasional product placement posts here, but they're not swamping out the forum like they used to do. I think this forum is running smoothly, as are the Carrara and Mac forums.

sirkrite ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 3:59 PM

Considering your job is like being caretakers in an insane asylum. You guys and gals are doing good. :) Yes, Poser people are a crazy bunch! ;D

maclean ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 4:10 PM

I don't think the mods are the problem. You guys do a good job under difficult circumstances. If anything, a lack of clarity in the rules is what's leading to confusion. I'd guess that 99.9% of the community is right behind you all. mac

Every time I get out of line your allways quick to slap me upside my head, therefore you must be doing a good job! However you have been rather skimpy on the monthly beer parties, and what happened to Friday bagels?? (oops, that was my last employer..)

queri ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 5:07 PM

The Mods are doing their job-- no one will ever completely like that, but, that's the nature of the territory. I think you are being as fair as you can be with rules that are a tad loose [as the best rules should be] I do however wish some of the members would remember to take their chill pills.;P Emily

Dave-So ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 5:17 PM

brrrrrr...that was cold I have no complaints on the work the mods do here...very commendable.... and even if all was strictly laid out...tighter rules, there would always be something amiss...its the nature of things....otherwise it would sure be a dull place. Its also difficult to adhere to posting rules, as sometimes you don't read the rules, or just want to post something quick where all will see it....thus you mods have something to do ;)

You're doing a fine job, as one of the "whiners" I guess it's rediculous for me to expect everybody to obey the rules and act like adults. Where did I get a silly idea like that? but seriously, you're doing a solid job, sometimes you have to be tough.

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

Three words lyrra: - Grace under fire - Staying on top of active threads, keeping us in line, listening to our complaints, and tackling one snafu after another must be a daunting task for all the mods and admins. But, somehow you guys manage to do it, and do it well. Thank you. - Jane

quixote ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 7:55 PM

I have few or no complaints. However, I know that there have been problems lately (few months to a year) and some of those may very well have been communication problems. In your place I would consider hosting a community meeting where some of these problems and concerns could be aired with the accent on finding compromises and creative solutions to these problems. No old battles allowed during this meeting. We just concentrate on finding compromise and undertanding for the different positions. Some here want to feel like they have a say in some of the decisions that involve people's fundamental rights or the perception of those rights. It's important to most members, I think. If we remain positive we might just be able to avoid future problems. With respect, Q

Very good job making sure all the children play nice.

sandoppe ( ) posted Fri, 22 August 2003 at 11:17 PM

Bottom line....you are doing a good job in what amounts to an unenviable task. You can never please everyone....in fact...if you please me, you will most certainly piss off someone else :) Just the way the human race is, frankly! :)

By the way, if everyone is busy rendering its harder to bicker. This month's challenge just broke the all time history record for entries and there's still one weekend to go. Sooooooooo, let's see your transcendent image!

Jackson ( ) posted Sat, 23 August 2003 at 9:25 AM

On the whole I think you guys to an admirable job. I know I wouldn't do it; you couldn't pay me enough to take this job.

dialyn ( ) posted Sat, 23 August 2003 at 9:56 AM

I honestly don't think the moderators are responsible for many of the problems here. This is a community where people have strong ideas about what should be done...but where people disagree about those ideas (and what they say they want is inconsistent with how they act). It can't be easy to try to negotiate the minefield. I do think it's perhaps time to recruit some more moderators if there are reliable people willing to take on the thankless task. Some forums have only one or no moderators, and no one person can be watching a forum 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Poser has three and, with that, there often are times where it is hard to reach someone to let them know that a thread is starting to smoke. The biggest problems I see are not anything the moderators could resolve.

Mec4D ( ) posted Sat, 23 August 2003 at 3:07 PM

We are talking here about the good work and about the good way for the community and there started again a nice conversation in Poser forum with f....k and all other things.. why nobody stop this.. this is really funny
