Subject: CR2 editing questions / Smartprop->figure questions

Riddokun ( ) posted Sun, 24 August 2003 at 9:27 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 1:09 PM

Questions about CR2: I saw many CR2 released by people who contained many custom informations such as additionnal geometry, entire morph targets definitions and even more... I wanted to ask how to include such things (ex: morph targets) within a CR2 (means how to edit the cr2, the correct place and syntax to put the MT) Also i wanted to know: When playing with grouping tool to create new material to assign to a figure, can i save the custome "new material" information i created right into a CR2 so people using same geometries/obj that would load the cr2 would end up with the new material settings ? So far i used uvmapper free to do that, and it was oki for personnal use but when i plan to release things with such kind of work, i dont feel like puting an UVS and describe the procedure to people because i dont want to overflw users who are less familiar swith such actions. One last question not really about cr2 or maybe: I have a smart prop that can stick to one group/part of a figure, so my idea was to make it a conforming figure instead (some things can be done to figures that are not appliable to props, and i need this), but when i load the smart prop, and use the hiearchy function "save as new figure", then i try to confom the "figure" version of my smart prop to the initial figure it used to be parented, it goes anywhere on the screen but not stick to my parent figure. To describe you more in detail the problem, i am here trying to make a "figure" out of the "pants" smartprop of MayaDoll RQrie figure, because i need it to be a figure (conforming) instead of a prop, and as it has no Joint parameter, no need to bend, etc, because it only cover a part of MDoll Hip group i dont see the problem. Also i may need in the future to convert other smartprops to figures in the same way. thanx for all your help

Riddokun, editing Poser library files is not that difficult (most of the time), but it does take time to learn, it's a matter of getting used to the structure of the files and what the various parts do. Bloodsong has written a book which I think explains a lot of this (I don't have the book my self). What I know about Poser library files I learned by hanging about in the forums, and by experimenting. The subject is too big to give a complete answer to your question here in the forum, but perhaps I can shed a little light. Adding morph targets: You can add a morph target from the Poser 4 interface by; Object>Load Morph Target . If you want to see what this does to the cr2, add the morph to a copy of the cr2. You can use the free utility ExamDiff to compare the copy to the original. Find ExamDiff here: http://www.prestosoft.com/ps.asp?page=edp_examdiff Morph targets can also be coppied from one cr2 to another using the free utility morph Manager 4, the MT's (Morph Targets)are specific to the geometry they were made for, you can't apply Posette morphs to Victoria. Of course you can use a text editor to copy morphs, but it involves a lot of scrolling. Morph targets can be added to cr2 loaded in Posere via a pz2 (pose) file, but at least a "skelliton" of a targetGeom channel must exist in the cr2 for the MT to go into. Here is the minimal skelliton targetGeom channel needed to inject a morph into:

                targetGeom MyMorph
                        {
                        }

Grouping Tool: If you use the Grouping Tool to create new material for an actor (body part) or prop, you can save the item back to the pallet, but the geometry for that actor or prop will be converted to a geomCustom and stored internally in the cr2 or pp2. Hoever it seems to me that there is a bug in Poser 4 that can corrupt the geometry rsr file associated with the cr2 and cause OTHER figures that use the same rsr to have missing body parts.

hmm about smart props that wasn't what i had in mind i mean i convert a prop into a .obj or even a figure (with the hierarchy tool) the smart prop used to fit a character's body part, but the "stand alone" figure resulting of conversion of smartprop does not behave like a conforming cloth on same character.. so the point is: how do i make / fix that ? for cr2 editing and understanding, do you know of any onlien ressources to read ? even complex or long ? (your own remarks still helped me much)

For more info on the cr2 format try the link above. I don't know much about conformers, so can't advise you there.

I found that I can make a smart character, by putting the smartness line (e.g.)smartparent head:1 in its BODY's actor. I did it with my propane flamethrower (NOT with the uploaded version!!), and when I loaded my workman and then the smart flamethrower, the flamethrower went to the man's back wherever he was. But my Poser jammed when I tried to delete the smart character.
